“Authentic Mexican in Younge-Wellesley”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 24, 2014

Walked by this restaurant on Sunday; tried it on Monday. Friendly, prompt accommodating service. Enticing food presentation. I had orchata (refreshing, not overtly sweet) and the pescado veracruzano. My husband had had the enchilada plate (two cheese one beef, topped with a red sauce), both came with a salad of fresh greens and frijoles negros, charro style topped with queso fresco (rice with vegetables accompanied the pescado). Finished dinner with a velvety flan. For my taste, the food could have been a bit spicier which the waiter assured could be done upon request (chipotle sauce, habanero or jalapeno), this place aims to please. Generous portions, good quality. Try it, you wouldn't be disappointed.

“Very disappointing”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 12, 2014 via mobile

We went for Mother's Day yesterday. We ordered enchiladas, tacos, a soup and a cornmeal cake on a corn cob husk. None of us liked the food and the service wasn't so great either. I'm surprised to see positive reviews! The beef tacos where so stringy and unflavoured. Would not visit again.

“Cocina Lucero is a tad expensive, but tasty!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 17, 2014

Cocina Lucero is located conveniently in downtown Toronto. It makes for ideal place for a Mexican meal before/after shopping, touring around, seeing a show or just about anything you would want to do downtown Toronto. Cocina Lucero is definitely a sit-down and enjoy yourself leisurely type of meal. I had the enchiladas, they were perfectly cooked with a tad spicy sauce, which gave the meal the right amount of zip. The starter chips and the slightly creamy salsa were awesome. Though I found that for ten dollars, the guac and chips were overpriced and on the smallish side. My friends had the fish tacos and the El Burro (steak) and were impressed by the flavours and the portion size. Like most good Mexican places, Cocina Lucero is a bit on the pricey side, but you do enjoy your meal. The service is relaxed and friendly, though at times you wish the water refills would be a little more plentiful considering the spiciness of the food. I will return to Cocina Lucero whenever downtown and craving a sit-down type of Mexican meal. I bet you will too, give Cocina Lucero a try!!

“Great fish tacos”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 6, 2014

This isn't a really fancy restaurant but the food is great - especially the fish tacos, that include fish, shrimp or lobster. They don't come with alot of toppings but you can add your own which is nice. The beer selection is good too.

One caveat - during the cold weather, don't sit near the windows - it can get chilly.

“Awesome Mexican Food - Great Service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 29, 2013

Did you ever walk by a restaurant and look inside and see happy people enjoying food in a relaxed atmosphere and wish you were there right now?
Do not walk past Cocina Lucero... open the door, step inside and enjoy!
You are greeted by a great host/bartender/server who could be your best friend in an instant. The menu is just right, the list of cocktails, cervezas, wines is good - make sure you try the Sangria... it is JUST RIGHT!
The dinner menu offer something for everyone - chicken, fish, beef, vegetables in a suitable price range - this is NOT taco bell's taquitera... it is excellent Puebla Mexican family cuisine where the house specialty Polio con Mole de Puebla will leave you full but craving for more; it is probably the most flavorful and smooth mole (outside of Mexico) I've ever had.

This restaurant is worth it!! The portion are moderate, the price minimal. ENJOY!!
