“Small rooms, but great location and good reno to a former Days Hotel”
Reviewed September 26, 2012

Stayed one Saturday night. As much as I enjoyed some aspects, I didn't have a great experience. Perhaps being on a lower floor with no view, facing street didn't help. I did book early; prices subsequently increased for those booking closer to date.

Loved
- downtown location, especially now that the massive grocery store is open next door
- large outdoor wood deck next to the indoor pool/fitness
- most furnishings in my room seemed new
- room had vibrant art prints, comfy bed
- large flat panel TV
- friendly employees, including cleaning staff that made a point of speaking

Liked
- reliable chip in room access card, rather than a strip
- fitness equipment, although fitness room was uninviting
- sixth floor pool and change rooms, although the tiles are slippery when wet
- complimentary newspaper by elevator on each floor

Not so keen on
- narrow floor hallways
- no bathroom fan; tight space
- small 'executive' room had only one window in the far corner; room was dark

Dealbreaker
- long waits for small elevators that sometimes include a cleaning cart. On most floors, you have only a down button. I ended up using stairs more than once.

Room Tip: Rooms lower than five likely have no view.

My husband and I were in Toronto from Ottawa to attend a family event and also to celebrate our birthdays - mine is Aug 10th and his is 13th so we spent a long weekend in Toronto, staying at the Downtown Holiday Inn.
We wanted a hotel with a pool since I wanted to get some excercise and the pool was very nice.
The staff when we first registered and throughout our stay were friendly and pleasant. I don't know if this was because we are Priority members but they offered us a quiet room on a higher floor if we were interested and we took it. The room was great with an OK view for downtown.

The other great thing about this hotel is its location. There used to be not very many restaurants in this area but now there are tons, with a wide variety of price levels, North American and world wide food tastes for hotel guests to choose from. You can also take the subway right at the corner with Yonge Street or walk a few blocks down to Yonge and Dundas, the heart of the City.

Room Tip: I think the rooms higher up are quieter

Spent 11 nights here and enjoyed it.
Very friendly and helpful staff and they always spoke if they were free when you passed.
The room was not all that big but had everything you need even a small fridge which was great as we had exceptionally warm weather.
The hotel is very clean and comfortable. It is reasonably handy for shops, some of the attractionsand it is only a few minutes from the subway.
We had been in it a number of years back when it was the Days Inn. Were so pleased to see the improvements made.
The tram line is in the street as well which is handy to get about.
To be highly recommended
Enjoyed our stay very much.
Had a view of the CN Tower which was nice to see at night when it is lit up.

Room Tip: We were on 6th floor so possibly it would be less noisy higher up or at the back of the hotel

We read the reviews and were skeptical, but decided to stay here as my husband is a Priority Club Member. The hotel is well-located, a couple of blocks from Yonge Street on Carlton, near a subway station, with Eaton Center within walking distance. We were pleasantly surprised with the hotel, and our stay has been great. The lobby is attractive, and every area was neat and clean. All the hotel personnel we encountered were polite and helpful. The hotel has been recently updated, and the renovations are wonderful. We were given a suite, which is on the small side, but more than adequate. The furnishings are very nice; the bed is wonderful, with European style bedding and an assortment of pillows. Marble countertops in the living area and bathrooms compliment the dark wood and neutral tones. The bathroom is small but has everything, including a glass enclosed, tub length, wonderful shower. The breakfast may be complementary, depending on your package. It's a much better Holiday Inn breakfast than I have had at any other Holiday Inn. In addition, based on hotel rates in Toronto, this hotel is quite a good value. There is parking, with a self-park lot at a reduced rate. Based on our stay, I would absolutely recommend this hotel.

You might be asking, how could the hotel location be improved, when the hotel hasn't moved?

Right next door, the historic Maple Leaf Gardens has been rescued by Ryerson University, and is now an athletic center for the university, and with the largest urban supermarket, a Loblaws, I have ever seen is now on the ground floor of the former area. Great for running to for beverages, snacks, and even meals. This formerly forlorn corner is now vibrant, and the care with which the arena was renovated is incredible. It used to pain me so to see the area abandoned, in cobwebs, waiting for the wrecker's ball.

The hotel room was comfortable, with very comfy mattress, an assortment of pillows, flat screen TV, working A/c, and a window that opens. The bathroom is compact, but with a large modern shower.

I stayed three nights, and it was a very good value.

Room Tip: I was put on the upper floor that was reserved for Priority Club members. I don't know what was...
