Owner description: With a collection of more than 90,000 works of art, the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) is among the largest and most distinguished art museums in North America. An international landmark, the AGO is also one of Canada’s most innovative cultural destinations. Highlights of the Gallery’s world-class collection include iconic Canadian and Inuit works, along with European and contemporary art – all on view in a spectacular building transformed by renowned Toronto-born architect Frank Gehry. After spending time with the AGO’s vast collection, be sure to enjoy a meal or glass of wine at the Gallery’s award-winning restaurant FRANK. Visit shopAGO for a unique collection of artful gifts, one-of-a-kind jewelry, and beautiful art books.

We had seen some pieces of Ai Weiwei arts in different museums but never a whole exhibition and so when we heard the AGO was presenting this exhibition, we came from Montreal to spend a weekend inToronto to see it. The art presented is beautiful and made us appreciate the artistic skills of the artist. We knew him as an activist and an artist who could convey strong political messages through his art and were pleasantly surprised by his artistic capacity. What we found disappointing though, is we felt we did not learn much from the exhibition. There are very few explanations about the art, the artist and his other works.

Awesome. You learn so much and get insight into his genius. Costumes, clothing, art and design abound.
And the music plays on.....

Visited the European collection and was thrilled with the experience. I had only one day in Toronto and will be back as soon as I can manage it.

There is a great deal to see here. Whilst not cheap, you could easily spend the day if you take your time. (The problem is that attention fatigue sets in after a while and you stop paying attention.)

Lots of exhibits of Canadian art, also African... Also special exhibits. We were lucky enough to see Ai Weiwei's very interesting work, as well as the excellent David Bowie exhibition. There are some unusual views of Toronto out the back staircase, and the building itself has a beautiful exterior on its first floor. A feast.

I spent a rainy Sunday at AGO and enjoyed it thoroughly. Saw two special exhibitions: Ai WeiWei & David Bowie. The most interesting part about visiting AGO is during the lunch time, I was able to walk two blocks to Chinatown, had a delicious bowl of noodle soup for $7, then went back to AGO for the rest of my visit. Don't forget to visit the airy and light filled cafe on the 2nd floor facing Dundas Street for a caffene break.
