Owner description: With a collection of more than 90,000 works of art, the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) is among the largest and most distinguished art museums in North America. An international landmark, the AGO is also one of Canada’s most innovative cultural destinations. Highlights of the Gallery’s world-class collection include iconic Canadian and Inuit works, along with European and contemporary art – all on view in a spectacular building transformed by renowned Toronto-born architect Frank Gehry. After spending time with the AGO’s vast collection, be sure to enjoy a meal or glass of wine at the Gallery’s award-winning restaurant FRANK. Visit shopAGO for a unique collection of artful gifts, one-of-a-kind jewelry, and beautiful art books.

Since its massive, expensive renovation and expansion, this is one of the top 5 art destinations in Canada. Anyone interested in art is urged to allow a complete day to see their permanent collection, as well as whatever temp. exhibitions they have. Be sure to visit the model boats in the basement.

This used to be a lovely old building. The recent renovations have destroyed the look of the building, both inside and out. The main areas of the building are dedicated to a so so collection of one of the major donors. The entrance price is pricey and even pricier for special exhibitions. It has become an elitist place. If you can afford it, the special exhibitions are sometimes worth the visit.

if you ever wanted a feel for canadian art this will enable if you avoid the usual roman/ euro trash on display. wonderful selection of beautiful ship models kids mad about tintin will partic appreciate. family / kids programs are very good. my son is very fond of the ping pong tables in the kids area ( (: ). i love that kids can play on the large henry moore sculpture outside - as far as i know its the only place in the world where you can photograph them playing on one without the police in attendance so very very cool. interesting gear in the shop, several options for edibles etc. we are members so we go regularly. they have yoga in the sculpture gallery which i probably wont try but hear its great.
