“Not bad”
Reviewed January 6, 2012

It has a great Henry Moore collection and a great Inuit collection of sculpture. The modern art is uninteresting to awful. I would go back for the special collections the AGO imports. The guides are very knowledgeable about the permanent collection

“Great collection... Chagall crowded”
Reviewed January 6, 2012

This is a must-see when you visit Toronto. It is a bit $ but worth it. Not easy to cover the whole gallery in one day.

The Chagall show was super crowded and the headsets were the old school kind that look like giant cell phones. The tickets were not timed so it was chaotic. But the rest of the gallery quiet...

They need to do something about the coatcheck - maybe more staff or a better line-up system. We waited 20 minutes to check our jackets.

“Wonderful microcosms of Art!”
Reviewed January 5, 2012

The AGO is one of those places where you can spend an entire day in just one section of a wing. The staff are very polite, the location is accessible by public transit (and by car/bus) with plenty of options to eat inside (the Cafeteria and FRANK restaurant) for any kind of preference and budgetary limits (or lack thereof). The idea with the AGO is you can explore at your own pace and get lost in what it has to offer everywhere inside. However, it's best enjoyed by picking a section and getting yourself immersed in there. If you get a membership pass to go as often as you want throughout the year, this is the best way to appreciate everything that the AGO offers in addition to the special exhibits they show. If you're there for the day or for a few hours, the AGO won't disappoint either way.

Over and above the house collection, the AGO has a steady schedule of visiting collections to make you want to return again and again.
