It is s a nice to sit and read, good selection, quiet like a library should be, and a fun place to spend a hot day!

“One of Toronto's greatest assets”
Reviewed June 22, 2012

Not sure how much appeal it would have for a visitor (though the Metro Central Library at Yonge and Bloor is a gorgeous building). But for people who live here the library system has everything -- books, movies, entertainment, learning, literacy and a wonderful online system that will deliver whatever you want to the most convenient location -- or online, if you have the technology.

“Count Your Blessings Toronto!”
Reviewed June 20, 2012

This library system is amongst the best in the world. I spent many, many years in a rarefied job, tutoring young offenders in various branches of this system. Every neighbourhood has a branch, some better than others (I mean the building, not staff). Standouts include Beaches branch, a stone heritage structure plus Northern District and also Lillian Smith. It'd be great if Library management would replace some of the crappier, smaller branches, including the disgrace at Jones. Following the Chicago library system's model of inviting much public input, the Toronto branches offer something for everyone. The Reference Library at Yonge/Bloor is one of a kind, a terrific place to read, research or listen to headphones music.

“Best library system in the world”
Reviewed June 20, 2012

The TPL is one of the best in the world - branches are numerous, the collection is huge and varied and all easily accessible via the internet. To top it all off, the Toronto Reference Library has undergone a major renovation that is worth a visit.

“Excellent public library system!”
Reviewed June 20, 2012

The librarians are great, friendly, and very helpful. The online system is easy to use and comprehensive. I love how the libraries are linked together so you can have books delivered to your branch and check them out and return them at any branch.

Some libraries are not open long enough though and this can be a bummer. Also the email notifications are not immediate for some reason, there seems to be a delay for 2-4 days sometimes! So you have to check your account online regularly to make sure you have no overdues or holds waiting to be picked up.
