Owner description: Canada's majestic castle and Toronto’s premier historic attraction. In 1911, Sir Henry Pellatt engaged noted architect E.J. Lennox to help him realize a lifelong dream, the creation of an Edwardian castle on the top of a hill overlooking Toronto. It took 300 men nearly three years to complete the nearly to 200,000 square foot castle at a cost $3,500,000 (at the time). Situated on 5 acres, Casa Loma was the largest private residence in Canada. Sir Henry Pellatt with his wife Lady Mary enjoyed Casa Loma for less than ten years before financial misfortune forced him to abandon his home. The tour of the castle is self-guided. Visitors can experience the castle at their leisure with the aid of multimedia audio guides.

We got to only take a look at the outside. Being a Miami native, it seemed like an unimpressive imitation of Vizcaya. The grounds were nice and seemed to have a nice garden. However, it lacked anything that made it distinctly impressive. Being that this place is quite a way away from the heart of the city, I wouldn't advise anyone to go out of there way to check out the place. At least from the outside, the pictures on this page are as impressive as it is in person.

As an historic Castle its great but let me tell you the city is looking to lease it to Liberty Grand people to manage, there is a planed FAB restaurant, party room, conference room. All the ghosts will get a pay rise to entertain the tourists. This will be great for Casa Loma...Lets hope it all works out. At the moment just walk around and be amazed at the enormous waste of money put in by a man who never got to live there.

This is a beautiful building, but it is such a shame what they have done with it. It is old and cold, and there is so little to actually see or do. Rather than offer a charming café, or restaurant, there is actually a cafeteria style deli- in the basement no less! I really hope that they city sees the potential of this place and opens it up to an inviting public use.

We did this as a part ot the hop on hop off bus tour. The bus let's you off at the bottom of a very steep hill and it's a bit of a hike for older (65 and 80) people but certainly not impossible. the gardens are phenomenal. Although it's not the most magnificent mansion we've been to, the history of Henry Pellatt and the house is fascinating. Great views if you wak to the top of the Scottish tower. We went very late in the day - an hour and a half before closing. That was plenty of time and we avoided most of the big tour bus traffic plus the light in the gardens was beautiful.

We spent an afternoon here with some friends.
The building itself is very lovely, with some really good views from the top of the south tower looking down over down town Toronto.
You are given a complimentary audio unit to carry round that tells you all you need to know, but some hands -on personal quide would have been better,
It will only take you a few hours to look around here, found the place very very dusty, with not that much to see, but still a nice place to visit.
