Owner description: Canada's majestic castle and Toronto’s premier historic attraction. In 1911, Sir Henry Pellatt engaged noted architect E.J. Lennox to help him realize a lifelong dream, the creation of an Edwardian castle on the top of a hill overlooking Toronto. It took 300 men nearly three years to complete the nearly to 200,000 square foot castle at a cost $3,500,000 (at the time). Situated on 5 acres, Casa Loma was the largest private residence in Canada. Sir Henry Pellatt with his wife Lady Mary enjoyed Casa Loma for less than ten years before financial misfortune forced him to abandon his home. The tour of the castle is self-guided. Visitors can experience the castle at their leisure with the aid of multimedia audio guides.
Useful Information: Wheelchair access, Food available for purchase, Bathroom facilities, Stairs / elevator

Loved the castle and the story behind it. We visited in the 'Heatwave' though and of course the Casa doesn't have air-con so some parts were exhausting. The gardens were beautiful but as it was so hot we couldn't stay outside too long.
Would love to go again in cooler weather and spend more time there.
Well worth the visit

My favorite part of our trip the history and detail in this old castle was amazing got some great photos as well. The kids were also amazed my eight year couldn't stop talking about climbing the tower and the tunnels.

A visit to Toronto should include Casa Loma, which never had any royalty as residents but rather a mansion built for a wealthy gentleman. Be aware that it is heated in the cold months, but is not airconditioned for the warm ones.

The house itself is very interesting. I especially liked the garden, the observatory and the private suites.

It was interesting to hear the history behind the castle. There were individual guided tour recordings (looked like a cordless phone) where you just typed in the number of each room and got to hear the history behind the items. There was a wedding in the conservatory while we were there that I am sure had some great photos. It was beautiful.
