Owner description: Canada's majestic castle and Toronto’s premier historic attraction. In 1911, Sir Henry Pellatt engaged noted architect E.J. Lennox to help him realize a lifelong dream, the creation of an Edwardian castle on the top of a hill overlooking Toronto. It took 300 men nearly three years to complete the nearly to 200,000 square foot castle at a cost $3,500,000 (at the time). Situated on 5 acres, Casa Loma was the largest private residence in Canada. Sir Henry Pellatt with his wife Lady Mary enjoyed Casa Loma for less than ten years before financial misfortune forced him to abandon his home. The tour of the castle is self-guided. Visitors can experience the castle at their leisure with the aid of multimedia audio guides.

“interesting building and history”
Reviewed April 11, 2013

take the free audio guide and stroll around the building; there is no need to follow the numbers in a given order. I enjoyed also watching the video during which I learnt quite a lot about Sir Henry Pellat and about electricity in Toronto.

“Great Side Trip”
Reviewed April 11, 2013

Beautiful House. Very Interesting History. Don't miss the unfinished pool in the basement, the very very very top of the house or going over to the stables. Only drawback to the visit is that they were preparing for a special event and had moved out a lot of furniture and were building sets for the party. They should have offered the tour at a discount.

“Lovely castle - must see”
Reviewed April 9, 2013

I really liked this attraction. The castle is very well kept and gives a great insight into the couple that used to own it and live there years ago. The audio guide is very informative, and staff helpful.

“Family fun approved!”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

Found this gem using our Toronto Pass and we were surprisingly excited once we arrived. The staff was friendly and our admission included the audio tour which was very informative. My nine year-old had a great time and was pleased with the various open rooms, especially the tower. Parking was resonable and a definite must for families.
