Owner description: Canada's majestic castle and Toronto’s premier historic attraction. In 1911, Sir Henry Pellatt engaged noted architect E.J. Lennox to help him realize a lifelong dream, the creation of an Edwardian castle on the top of a hill overlooking Toronto. It took 300 men nearly three years to complete the nearly to 200,000 square foot castle at a cost $3,500,000 (at the time). Situated on 5 acres, Casa Loma was the largest private residence in Canada. Sir Henry Pellatt with his wife Lady Mary enjoyed Casa Loma for less than ten years before financial misfortune forced him to abandon his home. The tour of the castle is self-guided. Visitors can experience the castle at their leisure with the aid of multimedia audio guides.
Useful Information: Food available for purchase, Bathroom facilities, Stairs / elevator, Wheelchair access

This is A wonderful way to see how very wealthy Canadian's lived in the early 1900's and the intelligence of the architect and home owner since some of the items in the house are his inventions. Kudos to the kiwians club (?) and city of Toronto for saving this remarkable estate.

This place is well worth a view with the family. Amazing venue, with a slightly set design feel to it. Very family friendly. Bring a packed lunch and enjoy it in the garden on the grounds.

This was by far the most underestimated attraction we went to, and we had thoughts of skipping it! We had such a fun time here. The Audio tour was really a great move because it allowed us to roam around and tour what we wanted to tour. It is a very good concept. Going through the house at our own p\ace really allowed us to appreciate it more, not feeling forced. I enjoyed going through the tunnel to the other part of the estate. It was very cool because we did not know what we would find. Also liked the posters telling us what was filmed there. No wonder it seemed so familiar. The garden was very beautiful and we took many great photos there! Loved it

This is my second visit to Casa Loma. This first was perhaps 20 years ago. The majority of the castle is now open to visitors. With so many highlights, one has to simply visit to see how spectacular Casa Loma is. It is a jewel of the city of Toronto and must not be missed if you are a first time visitor or a seasoned traveller. The audio tour is briliant and included in your entrance fee. Do go during the warmer seasons so you can sit on the terrace, walk through the gardens and stroll down the paths to trully get a fuller respect for this marvelous place. This is must-see. Expect to spend at least three hours and take lots of pictures to show your friends and family.

Do you like architecture? Extravegance? Historical musings? Exquisite wonders? Fantastical castles in the midst of a sprawling city? Then you should check this place out. It's quite an educational experience, and a ton of fun to explore. For those of us Torontonians, it's an incredible glance into the past too. One of the only real castles in Canada. If you do check it out, make sure to climb the dungeonesque towers (beware if you're claustrophobic), the underground tunnels, and pretty much everything marked with a number. You get nifty little multi-language devices sort of like cellphones that narrate the whole thing too. Great for the price ($20 I think?). However, if you're easily bored by museums and have no interest in antiques I would advise to steer clear.
