Owner description: Canada's majestic castle and Toronto’s premier historic attraction. In 1911, Sir Henry Pellatt engaged noted architect E.J. Lennox to help him realize a lifelong dream, the creation of an Edwardian castle on the top of a hill overlooking Toronto. It took 300 men nearly three years to complete the nearly to 200,000 square foot castle at a cost $3,500,000 (at the time). Situated on 5 acres, Casa Loma was the largest private residence in Canada. Sir Henry Pellatt with his wife Lady Mary enjoyed Casa Loma for less than ten years before financial misfortune forced him to abandon his home. The tour of the castle is self-guided. Visitors can experience the castle at their leisure with the aid of multimedia audio guides.

“A great land mark”

Casa Loma is truly one of the most beautiful buildings in all of North America. I suggest that anyone who visits in the summer time should check it out.

“A classic in T.O”
Reviewed March 17, 2012

I've been to Casa Loma many times and each time I learn something new. Last time I went I took my time strolling through the many rooms and reading about the different layouts and occupants. Overall, I good day out.

“Unexpectedly awesome adventure”
Reviewed March 15, 2012

Casa Loma was one of five destinations in our City Pass. If we were running out of time it was going to be the one we would skip. I'm so glad we didn't! We took the TTC from downtown and it's a short hike up a hill to the Mansion. The house was impressive, but the kids most loved the "secret" passages and the staircases up into the turret. We spent a good two hours exploring the house and we didn't even use the audio tour which is available to tell the stories behind the rooms. It was so nice to be able to explore the house at our own pace. Despite it being the March Break, it never felt crowded.

“A really cool castle!”
Reviewed March 14, 2012

It is not so much a castle but mansion built in the style of a castle! it is not that old, about 100 years. It is gorgeous though, and beautifully situated on top of a hill!! It is about half hours walk from downtown Toronto, up past the University area. The castle is well worth a visit: it is furnished beautifully; you can climb up to the attic and have great views of the city; there is a secret tunnel to the garage/stables. The film room shows a short film about the man who built the castle and why, and it is pretty interesting!! It is self guided tour, just wander around room to room with a map. It is all clearly marked though so you know where you are. Really nice way to spend and hour or two.
