A lovely peaceful haven just a short ferry ride ($7 return) from Toronto Waterfront. 3 ferries to choose from - out by one, walk, back by another - a great day out when the sun shines

This island is accessed by a short ferry ride ($7 round trip). It is worth spending 4-6 hours. There is an amusement park for young children, a beach, areas for boating, bike rentals, walking trails, feeding ducks (bring bread) and more.

I have been to Toronto a number of times and never even knew about this getaway island. For $4 a ferry takes you on a 15 min ride to the island and you really feel like you are waiting for Jessica Lang to pop out on a bicycle. Lots of beaches and picnic areas without a shortage of beautiful views and horticulture. I rented a bike and went around the entire island - what a great adventure!

While it is only a short ferry ride from the city, this park is a real gem. There are walking paths or rental bikes, whatever your energy level and plenty of benches to relax and watch the scene. Great views of the city, or on the other side of the island, plenty of birds or boats to fill the scene. A great way to spend a lazy summer afternoon.

The Toronto Islands provided a green space and peaceful waterfront that the city sadly lacks. It was a simple and inexpensive way to escape the noise and dirt of the building site that is downtown Toronto! The island cafe near the Ward Island ferry port provided a good cappucino and homemade muffin for a mid morning break. The Carousel restaurant near the arched bridge provided the worst food I have encountered in a long time (rotten salad leaves and someone's hair in the beef sandwich). Don't use it. I did not try the other food outlets. If we had taken a picnic, there were ample places to enjoy a quiet lunch along the delightful walk between Ward Island and Hanlan's point on what for us was a warm, sunny June day.
