Owner description: Kensington Market is just to the west of Chinatown and is the bohemian heart of Canada, based in a multicultural history it is now a flurry of independent stores, restaurants, bars and shops that bring the world's foods to one tightly knit community. You can find any food on the planet in Kensington Market. It is not an uncommon thing to find a festival in Kensington Market making the bohemian party atmosphere complete. Tip for Kensington, take the transit. Streets are packed and traffic is insane, parking is non-existent.

Great for used clothing, good food, cheese, and a very helpful head shop. I also get my bike serviced there. Everything I really need.

Colorful, Hip, with 5 must tiny places... 1-PHO (soup place) on Baldwin & Spadina, Vietnamese Pot of luck soups... mmmm,
2-Moon Bean café, the best café with tinges of hippy difference (attracts book readers.. sitting an hour on a coffee mug.
3- The "Scent" store a Chinese "en vrac" messy store (across from moon bean) with a weird specialty... `sells scent sticks...
4- Tom's Place, a true and genuine "dress me please" store of old time, yet with an impressive (Huge, very modern) stock for men & women's wear- from fashion to street clothing (attracts throngs of fashionistas)

Every trip I make to Kensington market is different. I wander into different shops every time; I make new discoveries every time. There is so much diversity there: I love the store with the strange musical instruments, and the eclectic jewlery and gift stores. They really bring out the hippie in me. Food wise I get to try new cheeses, beans, grains, fruits, meats and seafood. On this last trip I found an edible Cactus and for lunch munched down on a Chilean Empanadas. Always something new and exciting in Kensington Market!

This is really the unrenovated section of downtown Toronto -- an old market and residential area overlayed with funky arts and crafts and down-at-the-heels gourmet restaurants. Great fun, great street scene.

Kensington Market has some of the most interesting shops. You can find bargains, fresh market goods and friendly people. It's a quick walk from Chinatown. You'll find buildings painted artistically from alien murals to an earthly charm.
