“Boring without a Guide”
Reviewed April 5, 2012

Unless you were a student of architecture, you're not going to appreciate the modernistic spaces and angles of the new city hall. A guide--booked ahead of time--can not only comment on the building but also the workings of City Council, what buttons to push, hot-button issues, mayoral strategems, committee work, the roof gardens, provincial controls, etc. We had a guided tour, which made it fun, and the guide invited us back after the Easter weekend to witness council in session.
Onsite are a public library, cafeteria, rack of tourist brochures, a nail mural, bored civil servants, floor tiles, and Nathan Phillips Square outdoors with its winter skating and summer festivals.

“Nothing special. Skating is cool in the winter.”
Reviewed March 3, 2012

I go by it all the time. Sometimes there's free concerts/events. In the summer the outdoor art exhibit is very good for finding gifts.
