I am from Toronto. I go back every year. No matter how short my visit, I always dedicate a full day to Bloor West Village. So much fun just walking around. Checking out the unique shops, restaurants.... Love the Griffin hamburgers restaurant. Sooooo good. Love to sit outside and sip coffee and watch and listen (all the different languages).... Can not miss Arka Shoes - like the old days when you had real service. Just walk, listen and observe. I hear they have a huge Ukrainian Street Festival that is lots of fun.

This area was originally a Ukrainian enclave, became somewhat of a slum at one point and then was gentrified. A few Ukrainian businesses and organizations are still present, but the newer businesses range from dollar stores to very fashionable shops. There are relatively few chain stores. Restaurants in the strip include Eastern European, Italian, Thai, Japanese/Sushi, Canadian/American and pubs. There are also a lot of small bakeries, produce markets and groceries. Most of the buildings are not architecturally interesting, but there is a pleasant ambience to the area.

To walk the entire strip, take the Bloor Subway Line to High Park, exit and walk west on Bloor till the shopping area starts then continue to the Jane stop (two stops away). The main portion lies between the Runnymede and Jane stops on the line.
