I haven't stayed at this hotel, but am going back to Toronto in May and have been looking at numerous Trip Advisor reviews of various hotels to decide where to stay. I have seen at least 3 reviews of different Toronto hotels from reviewer(s) in Batavia, NY (all dated 12/25) that are extremely negative. I did a search on Batavia and saw that the population in 1990 was 16,000. So the local populace either travels a lot and also uses Trip Advisor (on the same date) to air their complaints, or someone in Batavia has a relative that owns/manages a hotel in Toronto that must have a glowing review from Batavia and wants to slam all the other highly-rated hotels. I stayed near the area of the Grand Hotel (Novetel, didn't care for it) in November and have no complaints about the location. I did a lot of walking and never felt in jeopardy (or unsafe at all, for that matter) and I'm female. So take the review of the Batavia person with a grain (or several) of salt. If I had the time (or the inclination) I'd search, find and list all the hotels this so-called reviewer managed to supposedly stay at during the same period of time and go to each hotel's Trip Advisor review to up their rating.

The Grand Hotel & Suites in Toronto is by far my favorite hotel I've ever stayed in. I've travelled around the world and stayed in many nice hotels in Europe and across the US, and this hotel is tops! It's the type of hotel that makes you want to come back to Toronto each year so you can enjoy all that the hotel has to offer.

For me, there's two types of hotels you can stay in. There's the type where the staff and owners don't go to great lengths to keep their guests comfortable..they're there to do their jobs, and meanwhile the property inevitably gets run down and before you know it it's a disaster. Then there's the hotel where the staff takes complete pride in their hotel. They go out of their way to make each guest comfortable and happy, and keep everything at the property in perfect condition, and everything always seems new and spotlessly clean. If you want the best of the latter, you have to give the Grand a try.

Everything about this hotel seems luxurious. From the spectacular setting of the indoor pool to the amazing rooftop terrace with large jacuzzis and unbeatable panoramic views of the city and lake (and even Niagara Falls on a clear day) to the beautifully designed guestrooms, it's all top notch. Not to mention the FREE breakfast buffet in the classic restaurant adjacent to the main lobby. It's not your typical hotel continental breakfast buffet, this has everything from pastries, fruit, sausage, eggs, biscuits, juices, french toast etc. and it's all delicious.

Guest rooms range in size from smaller than average to huge apartment-size suites. We stayed in one of the smallest suites, and although it was on the smaller side, the comfortable beds (understatement) and views, along with the marble bathrooms and complimentary bathrobes more than made up for the fact it wasn't the largest room ever. It made for a very cozy and comfortable experience. This coming from someone who loves large spacious hotel rooms. I'd rather stay at the Grand than somewhere that offers huge rooms.

The location is great because it provides for unbeatable views, and right on the corner (Dundas and Jarvis), you can catch one of the red Toronto streetcars that'll take you a couple blocks away to the Eaton Center and trains. Overall, you really can't beat this hotel. It's the reason I go to Toronto.

Just returned from a one night stay in a Grand Deluxe room - 1 king bed. Asked for a "special room" at check-in as we were celebrating a major birthday and we got room 1804 - on the top floor with a view of the water - really spectacular! We could also see the CN Tower and many other landmark buildings. Layout of the room was interesting - upon entering there is a small "lounge area" with a sofa bed, coffee table and TV, in the middle of the space is the kitchenette area (complete with ice cubes in the freezer) and the bathroom, and finally the bed area with another TV and desk. It wasn't the largest room but we didn't feel cramped and the furnishings were quite nice. The breakfast buffet was good as others have noted, as was the pool area - the sauna was great this time of year! The free shuttle does not run on the weekend but hotel is within walking distance of a lot of the main attractions - we didn't find the neighborhood to be scary as some have noted. All staff were pleasant, the room (and rest of the hotel) was clean but it was a bit pricey.

I spent a few nights at the Grand in September.

Firstly, it is true that the area immediately surrounding the hotel is not the best in Toronto, but you are only a couple of blocks away from the main square in Toronto, and at no time did I feel unsafe.

I stayed in a junior suite which was clean and spacious. Check-in was very efficient. However, there were a couple of things in the room, such as peeling paint by the window, and a faulty bathroom light and I would have expected a hotel of this type to have identified and dealt with this promptly. That said, there were also some nice touches: every evening a card would be posted under your door with a weather forecast for the following day.

The hotel also has a well-equipped and spacious gym - something of rariety in hotels.

This hotel is particularly good choice when visiting Toronto in the summer. The hotel has a roof terrace with hot-tobs and great views of the city. There is also an outdoor terrace on the ground floor and breakfast on the terrace was a great way to the start the day.

I travel to Toronto On business often, i only stay at the Grand. The service is great, the rooms are first class. I use the complimentry wirless internet (works well in the restaurant and in rooms). The pool is spectacular. Great location for my meetings downtown (use the complimentry shuttle). The Grand is truly my Home away from my Home.
