“Good location to take in a Maple Leafs game”
Reviewed April 7, 2013 via mobile

We stayed at the Novotel to see the Maple Leafs play. It was easy to get to, despite all the downtown construction, and the location to the stadium was excellent. There were a large number of good places to eat and the hockey Hall of Fame was also close. The price was very competitive and the hotel was well run.

Beds and pillows were uncomfortable. Location was great. Quite a bit of road and building construction made arrival slightly tricky. Fitness area was adequate. There were a number of unsupervised teens who were somewhat noisy and disruptive in the fitness and pool area.

From the reception, maids, breakfast staff to leaving, the people that are employed there are wonderful. They are courteous and look like they enjoy their job. Room was as clean as any other room. Beautiful hotel, wonderful breakfast with lots of choices, hot and cold. The hotel is convenient to many restaurants, shopping and a movie theatre. These are the pluses.

The negatives. The room as I've said was clean, though sleeping in the floor would of been just as comfortable as sleeping in the bed. It was that hard. I had to take asprin daily from the soreness. The room was stiffling. Too warm and we had the settings at 60 degrees, so I'm thinking the thermostat was broke. Called for maintence which they at least accomplished that the fan was working though it didn't cool off the room. Very hard to sleep at night when you can grow plants in there. We were miserable and we brought a small FAN with us for white noise. The hotel hallways were cool and comfortable and my husband jokingly threatened to keep the door open at night. Found out that the hotel regulates the temp and the thermostats in the room are for show and tell. So if you're too warm in the winter, your screwed and if your too cool in summer, your screwed. I wouldn't or couldn't stay in any hotels ever again with this type of regulation over my comfort. I couldn't recommend this hotel only for this one point.

Dear RGalbraith,

I am sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations; please allow me to express my sincerest apologies.

Currently the temperatures in Toronto are fluctuating from plus 10 to minus 3 at night, which makes the control of the inroom climate a bit difficult therefore, our thermostats are set at a minimum and a maximum temparture to try and control these fluctuations. It is our hope that you will give us the opportunity to better serve you in the near future.

Unfortunately, the ventilation system was imbedded with some deodorizing element which bothered my sinuses and I spent the night with my face covered, trying to get some sleep. Overall, the hotel room was passable but rather gloomy.

We stayed in this hotel for 3 nights during the Easter weekend. The room and hallways are clean, and we were grateful for the covered driveway leading to the hotel lobby where one can temporarily park while waiting to check in. (Don't forget that this hotel is located in the St. Lawrence Market area where parking is not very easy to find.) The pool was small but the temperature was just right, so I enjoyed doing short laps and water aerobics. The hot tub was nice and warm, again just the right temperature, and big enough to hold quite a few people. Our room (#808) was on the quiet side of the hotel away from the elevators and the Esplanade. The king-sized bed was firm. If I have to be picky, the only complaint we had was the comforter was too warm and they did not furnish us with a cover bed sheet. The staff was friendly and very professional. When we came down to ask for a change in our room as they had originally placed us on the Esplanade side, they were very quick to correct the problem.

Overall, we found our stay very pleasant. While one can tell that this is an older hotel, the rooms, bathrooms, and furniture have been updated and made more functional. We will certainly go back!

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the Esplanade and from elevators if you are sensitive to noise. Bring your...

Close to Union Station & the airport shuttle bus (8 mins walk), a good hotel up to Novotel's usual standards.
Advantage of having an ok gym & swimming pool, a late night convenience store in the same block, and numerous bars and restaurants around. Business centre has PCs and printer in the lobby, great for online check ins.
Good value too compared to other central chain hotels.

Stayed at this hotel for a conference. Good location. Not a far walk to the convention centre. It is also close to Union Station, Air Canada Centre, St. Lawrence Market, the financial district, etc. There are also a lot of restaurants and bars nearby. The Keg, Old Spaghetti Factory and a few bars are directly across the street. The hotel provides free wifi. There were also some iMac's to use in the lobby with free printing available. Decent lobby and fairly spacious rooms. Although the room was sometimes warm even though the A/C was set to be at its coolest. Hotel staff were friendly. Small but sufficient fitness room. There were a lot of construction going around the area on during my stay. Fair value hotel.
