“Very long wait”
Reviewed February 11, 2013

We went on a Saturday and had to wait 90 minutes! They don't take reservations, so that wasn't an option. The food was good, but not great. Service was okay, but it was annoying that they hurried us out once we paid the bill. It's a good concept, and prices are actually quite reasonable, but definitely not worth more than a 30 minute wait.

“Love the atmosphere”
Reviewed February 9, 2013

What makes Guu so fun is the ultra high energy of the restaurant. From the moment you walk in to when you leave, the vibe is rhythmic and high. Every guest is greeted with loud shouts to welcome them, the same goes for when they leave. Every order is also shouted out - when it's being prepared and completed. It's obvious the staff that work there love their jobs - and it's contagious.

The food itself is also very good. The menu has plenty of options and the dishes are served tapa style. They're not too expensive (like another review has noted, mostly between $4 to $12), so you can try an assortment of things. My favourites are the takoyaki.

The only thing to bear in mind is that there is usually a line-up most nights. Expect to wait a bit upon arrival, unless you arrive early as they're opening.

“Fun. Great food. Cheap.”
Reviewed February 7, 2013

One of the best food experiences in Toronto yet. The service, chefs, everything was sooo fun. The calamari were my favourite. Well, the pork too. Price is pretty cheap. $50, tip included, 2 people.

“Such a fun place”
Reviewed February 1, 2013

I love coming here with friends. This is such a fun atmosphere! The food is amazing, using shareable portions at a low price usually between $4-$12 each. They have huge Sapporo beers for $8. The staff yell out hello as you arrive and yell out your order, it's just great and a lot of fun to be around. They mostly have communal or bar style seating, with very few small tables. no matter though, it's all part of the fun.
i wouldn't recommend if you're looking to have a quiet date or anything. unless you go in the summer and get on their patio.

wait times are usually quite long if you don't arrive when they open, since they don't take reservations. I'd recommend going to a place nearby during your wait for some drinks beforehand, once you put your name down.

“Japanese-Korean fare”
Reviewed January 31, 2013

We were lucky to get seated right away. The usual greeting is there. Tables are communal in the
middle. We ordered the
bibimbap- very good
agedashi tofu - soy sauce and wine with it excellent
yaki udon - another winner'
tongue - too hard and bland
eggplant - tasted too sweet, what sauce did they use ?
pork cheek - very salty
pumpkin egg - great texture and flavour
shabu shabu salad - nice dressing
prawn with mayo - great
short ribs - a tad tough
The place is noisy with a party atmosphere, servers are quick and polite. Dishes are given in small plates-tapas style. Tables are small and tight. People kept on pouring in. It is a japanese-mixed with korean fare. Overall good dishes.
