Noisy, busy, lot's going on but it's fun trying Japanese tapas. No suishi here but great choices - spinach with black sesame sauce was delish, pumpkin wrapped hardboiled egg with mayo sounds weird but was tasty -all good! Wait staff all give you a loud Japanese greeting coming in and and another loud goodbye when you leave.

Not a traditional izakaya but a fun experience. Come early or on a weekday. No reservations so expect a long line outside. Greeted by a loud Irashamasse. Seated communally in long rows. Check the menu out beforehand to see what they have. Have had the whole menu in its current incarnation now with the gomae, shabu shabu salad, Deep fried Brie and BBQ pork as my favourites. I loved everything but found the sauce on the okonomiyaki to be a bit strong for my palate. The bill was lower than I expected.

This restaurant is like an amped-up, Manga-fied version of an authentic izakaya experience. I'm not even sure these dishes all exist in Japan, but they are really creative, beautifully-presented, and there is enough variety on the large menu to suit any taste. To sum up the experience, think of an Oktoberfest bierhaus style atmosphere crossed with a hardcore Japanese pub, in a setting that is really hip and urban. I've heard that Toronto's food scene is really developing big time (apologies to Canadians who have known it all along), and Guu Izakaya has to be one of the stars in this emerging cast. Go with a friend or a group of friends, be prepared to drink at least a pitcher of perfectly chilled Sapporo/Asahi/Kirin (forgot which one I had), order a bunch of dishes tapas-style, and you'll have an extraordinarily memorable experience.

This place has it all, but don't go as a group because it will take forever to be seated. The food is always fresh (sometimes a lot of deep fried items), the service is quick and the atmosphere is AMAZING. They really have it down to an art here, and unlike other places, I don't mind waiting because I know it will be worth it. I was one of the first people to visit when they opened and have been back at least a dozen times. Always my go to place when I have a friend visiting town.

I had no idea this place existed. Just outside the village, this place is bumping. After a 1hr wait, we were cheered in to a high tempo, friendly restaurant. The food was affordable, fast, filling and very tasty. Go for the meal, but you will remember the experience. Check out Mickey Finns bar or Maple leaf Gardens grocery store, while you are waiting.
