“One of a kind!!!”

You have to go here. It's so high energy, the food is fantastic, the staff are great. One of my favorites. It isn't for a quiet romantic evening, but if you want a true unique eating experience then this is the place. Sake samplers, to baked oysters. Fantastic

“LOUD but delicious”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 20, 2012

The moment you walk in you get a rock star welcome like you're The Fonz. Guu has a fun party atmosphere with a rocking Japanese Tapas menu and a good selection of sake and beer. Highlights include Buta Kimchi Bibimbap: a rice, vegetable, and pork mixture served in a molten hot bowl that sizzles and crisps the rice even as you spoon it onto your plate. On the lighter side, the gomaae is sweet, cold, and refreshing. Vegetarians and carnivores can happily dine together here. Come hungry and thirsty and with friends who like to share.

“I LOVE this place!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 17, 2012

The food, service and atmosphere are fantastic, and there's nothing else like it in Toronto. I read other reviews that said the food was just okay, but they must have gone on an off night, because it was fantastic. I will absolutely be back!

“Lively atmosphere”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 13, 2012

Tucked away in the corner of McGill and Church in downtown Toronto, this place serves great food, in small portions in a noisy and lively atmosphere. Greetings yelled upon entering and upon leaving. Servers were friendly, service was efficient. Price is reasonable. Tried spinach with black sesame sauce - very nice and good, deep fried tofu in soya sauce, excellent, spicy mayo with prawns, amazing and grilled oysters, quite good. Will be back for more.

“Tons of fun”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 12, 2012

Prepare to be yelled at when arriving/leaving Guu...in a friendly way, by both staff and patrons. Great crowd and intimate atmosphere.

I'd recommend ordering 3-4 dishes per person (the server recommended 2-3, which wasn't enough). Lots of fun and unique menu choices. We especially enjoyed the takoyaki (octopus balls), beef sashimi and kimchi udon, but everything else was great as well.

Wash it down with several drinks, including sake and plum wine mojitos.

Will definitely return! Only con is the long wait to get in, as they don't take reservations.

I hear there is a 2 hour seating limit, so eat fast!
