“Great Hotel!”
Reviewed June 20, 2013

We stayed one night, excellent service at front desk, our room was small, with no view, but met all our needs. Everything clean, neat and tidy. Very quiet, and the best bonus is so close to all attractions, museums, and fantastic restaurants. Will definitely come back.

The hotel has (physically) everything you expect from what you pay, nothing more, nothing else. However the reception service is the worst I've ever seen. Unfriendly, apathetic staff, doing the minimum as possible to help and trying to 'get rid of you' as fast as possible to chat with colleagues about their weekend - yes, they we could hear them doing that-. Also you might consider yourself lucky to be greeted by the reception when passing by, as normally they just stare at the guests, waiting for you to salute them.

This evening we needed urgently to print, sign and scan a document to Europe. When we went to the reception to ask if they could help, Brian answered he could print, but not scan as 'we don't do this here'. Right behing him there was a huge, new fax/scan/printer which any child can use to scan, print of fax anything. Clearly Brian was not capable of doing that and in a very rude way just left us there. We continued trying to explain why we needed this urgent document sent immediately, but he still did not say anything but "I cannot scan". No apologies, no politeness, "I cannot scan". Brian did not give us a reason, it was not a hotel policy, there were no extra fees, just his incapacity to be helpful and do a simple receptionists job. His only reaction was to send us (at 8pm) to a shop nearby, which was already closed, of course, to do a simple scan of a 2-page document. We also asked to speak with a manager or supervisor and he denied.

We are deeply disappointed with the hotel and are sure there are much better places in Toronto with less incompetent people than Brian, the receptionist.

We appreciate the time that you took to write the review and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience you experienced during your stay. At the time our multi-function system was partially out of order. We do understand that the documents you needed to send were time sensitive so the only option available to you at the time was suggested. Again, we apologize your stay was not up to our normal standard. Thank you again for sharing your comments as they assist us in improving our service.

We stayed here for the second time recently. The hotel is small with a pretty but small lobby. We stayed in one of the larger rooms, which would probably be average size for most hotels. The room was modern and clean and I loved the wood/laminate floors instead of dirty carpeting. The bed was very comfortable. There was a variety of shows/movies to watch on Netflix. Our room faced out onto Yonge Street and we could hear road noise, even on the eighth floor, but it generally did not keep us awake. The location is very close to the subway station and good walking distance to many restaurants, the waterfront, CN Tower, St Lawrence Market, Eaton Centre, and many other areas. The desk staff were helpful, though we did not find them particularly friendly (some more than others). Overall, it was a very good value and location and we would stay here again.

I stayed here recently for a business trip. It is a small and very nicely appointed hotel in an excellent location downtown. The check in and check out was great - the staff was friendly and helpful, and they had a room to leave my bag in while I was out at meetings.

The rooms are small but have everything you need. Note that there is no extra space in the rooms (I would not bring kids here). A nice touch was the laminate flooring - no carpet! The bed was comfortable and the room was quiet. The bathroom was small as was the shower; the only thing I felt was missing as a little counterspace.

The location and price was excellent - an easy walk up from the trainstation and you are close to everything downtown. I would definitely return.

The hotel is in a very good location. Within walking distance of the shops, water front, markets and Brewery area. There are also quite a few restaurants nearby. The staff were approachable but not overly friendly. Our room was located on the 2nd floor. It was quiet and always clean. We only paid for a basic room and that's exactly what we got. It was very small which wasn't a problem for our short stay as we barely spent time in our room. I have to say Im not keen on the fake wooden floors. Whilst they can be easily cleaned I just found it didn't bring a cozy feel to the room. Also the lack of light from the very small window didn't help. Overall though it was a very good stay.

We always go to Toronto to catch the Contact Photography festival in May so the Victoria is pleasantly situated in Downtown within walking distance to Subway, Restos, Pubs...etc The staff are friendly and the newly renovated rooms have a certain "avant-garde"-style that seems to betray the old facade of the building but it was clean, functional and relatively quiet for being on the Younge Street side. The room was always cleaned upon our return and we never had to fuss with house-cleaning. Will definitely return.

We stayed in a queen room on the 3rd floor, it was quiet as the room was facing away from Yonge Street. The room was nicely furnished and comfortable. The bathroom compact and clean. We stayed for 2 nights so the small size of the room didn't bother us. The hotel is in a great location, and a few minutes walk to King subway station and the underground PATH. The cafe accessible from the foyer 'Over Easy' had an extensive breakfast menu and was also open for lunch, great food and very friendly staff.
