“Centre Island- old and tired and lame”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 20, 2009

I took my 3 kids to Toronto centre Island this week. It has been years since we went, and thought that it would be nice to go down memory lane. What we got is old, tired and lame. The ferry boat is still nice and a good way to see the harbour, and the island itself is well maintained and has nice gardens, so if you are going on a picnic then this is fine. The big rip off here is the main attraction of centre ville. Poorly maintained - old decrepit rides - poor staffing - poor maintenance- poor food - BIG price. There was not one good thing any of us could think of here - its like a very run down, cheap version of a bad carny show, with rides averaging about $4-5 each. All my kids thought that the rides were horrible and dated. A pizza for lunch was $30. The maintenance was horrible - everything needed a paint job and cleaning. The staff of mainly teen-angers all looked bored and rude.
Don't waste your time here - go to Wonderland or the CNE. Unless there is a complete overhaul, this place should be closed down or condemned soon. Yet another Canadian icon that has been forgotton and left to rot, because of poor managment and money.

“A Great Day away from the City”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 19, 2009

We were looking for something to do with the 3 boys (6, 10, 13) -- we figured we'd go on a boat ride. Hippo tours didnt work out -- and some of the other cruises were too much. We took a ferry boat -- 10 minutes to the Toronto islands -- it was 22 total for 5 people.

Take the Ferry. The lines are huge. Do not be intimidated == they move very fast. We went to Hanlan's Point and not Centre Island. Youll see most people are going to Centre especially if they have little kids. Hanlan is much less crowded. We walked the 1-2 miles on the road -- past the "clothes optional beach" -- dont worry -- you can totally avoid it but staying left on the fork. We then went to a beach on Lake Ontario that was almost empty on a Wed afternoon. We kept walking and went to the Centre island part -- Centreville -- which looked like a cute amusement park for 10 and under. We kept walking and took the ferry back from Centre Island.

Its a beautiful park. There are bike and boat rentals -- although you may be better off starting from Centre is thats what you want to do.

It was a beautiful day.

“One ferry ride away”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 5, 2007

The Toronto Islands have always been a haven for those who want an afternoon away from the concrete and noise of the city. A twenty minute ferry ride takes you from the dock at the bottom of Bay Street to one of three linked islands. Center Island is where most people go -- it has snack bars, picnic areas and a children's amusement park where children from all generations of my family have ridden the Swans and bumper cars. Ward's Island is residential and quirky and Hanlans has woods to walk through. You can rent bike and ride from one end to the other in an hour or so.

On this particular trip my sister was holding her 25th anniversary picnic on Center Island. A marquee was booked in case of rain, but instead we got a cold, blustery day -- the only one in a uniformly hot summer. Relatives huddled around the barbeques and traded gossip. It was still a wonderful place to go, but we just would have wished for more sun or warmer sweaters!
