“A rustic retreat”
Reviewed July 19, 2013 via mobile

Wow just a short s scenic ferry rode from the city takes you a world away to a small island where time has stood still. It looks like a Manet painting of a park in Paris in the summer. Couples strolling through the lawns and gardens, people biking on 2-4 person bike carriages, quiet beaches, a quaint amusement park and a small neighborhood area with teeny cottages nestled together on winding walkways. Definitely worth the trip and there's terrific photo ops of the Toronto skyline.

“Unique but a bit shabby”
Reviewed July 16, 2013

We took the ferry over, which was fun. Then we walked straight across the main part of the island (skipped the amusement park) and planned to picnic on the beach. The beach and structures around it were somewhat shabby and dirty. But most of the natural parts of the island were lovely, with some nice gardens (and some rather strange ones too...). Can't quite put a finger on it, but everything seemed to be in mild disrepair. My family rented bicycles and we had fun pedaling around the many paths from one end of the island to the other. There is a clothing optional beach (not visible from any of the bike or walking paths). There are very pretty views of Toronto across the water, and in general it was a good experience. Can't help thinking it needs some TLC and some more careful maintenance and preservation.

“One time is enough, maybe 2”
Reviewed July 16, 2013

We really want to like this place more, but lets be honest, the boat ride is the best thing about going there. In the summer, its crowded, humid, buggy and if you walk on the grass, beware there are Canadian goose feces all over. The first food place you see is Pizza Pizza and overall the food is lousy and unhealthy. There are a few play areas but again, they arent as good as they should be. The amusement park is for smaller kids and not worth the wait either. I am not a fan, what can I say? It needs a serious upgrade in terms of facilities, clean restrooms and better food and play structure.

“What an Experience!”
Reviewed July 15, 2013

This was our second visit to Centre Island in Toronto and we had a blast! We were so excited to see the "Festival of India" set up on the island. There was amazing food, shopping, music, theater, cooking demonstrations, and yoga classes. Apparently it is an annual event in July.

The island is a great place for younger children with lots of simple rides like the antique carousel, teacups, a small Ferris wheel, bumper boats, paddle boats, etc.

The ferry that connects the island to the mainland can be quite a scene with super-long lines at the end of the day. If you find the line too long to manage, there are water taxis out near the boat rides.

Also, if you want to avoid waiting in line, buy your ferry tickets in advance. They are going to start online purchasing by next summer, but at the moment, it can be an hour's wait just for tickets and another half hour to get on a ferry.

Overall, it is worthwhile as there is more than a day's worth of activity on the island.

If you can make it in mid-July for the Festival of India, it is absolutely awesome!
