Owner description: Opened in 1914, the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) showcases art, culture, and nature from around the globe and across the ages. One of North America's most renowned cultural institutions, Canada's largest museum is home to a world-class collection of more than six million objects and specimens, featured in 40 gallery and exhibition spaces. As the country’s preeminent field research institute and an international leader in new and original findings in biodiversity, palaeontology, earth sciences, the visual arts, material culture and archaeology, the ROM plays a vital role in advancing our global understanding of the artistic, cultural and natural world. The Renaissance ROM expansion project (2007) merged the iconic architectural heritage of the original building with the Studio Daniel Libeskind-designed Michael Lee-Chin Crystal. A distinctive new symbol of Toronto for the 21st century, the Crystal marked the beginning of a new era for the ROM as the country's premier cultural and social destination.

“Nice museum that will keep you busy all day”
Reviewed December 1, 2013

It's a pretty big museum which kept me busy most of the day. I did a tour with a guide first which hit the highlights and got me oriented to the building then I wandered around for four more hours taking pictures and checking everything out. The only thing I didn't like was their makeshift restaurant that was in operation because the main one was being renovated. There was NO vegan options so I'm glad I brought my own lunch. How can any place not have a plain salad or a fruit bowl is beyond me. I'm sure their main restaurant is better prepared but I don't know for sure.

“ROM”

A place for everyone at any age. They have a lot of child friendly things to do and exhibits. The vast amount of exhibits and periods is fascinating and easy to enjoy.

“Not what it used to be”
Reviewed November 27, 2013

A Toronto landmark, the ROM received an ill conceived addition several years ago. A glass carbuncle was glued onto the front of a gorgeous Victorian building, effectively blotting it out.
The grand entrance way is gone, and from the inside the addition has the look of unfinished dry wall in a suburban basement, and it is scuffed and dirty to boot. Admission is high, and nearby parking virtually nonexistent.

The collection itself is still first rate, but again, the addition has drastically altered its presentation. Go for the dinosaurs, and ignore the architecture.

“Entertaining and educational at the same time.”
Reviewed November 26, 2013

It is pricey and parking downtown is difficult, limited and very expensive. I would recommend taking the TTC (public transit).
The ROM itself is worth a visit.
