Owner description: Opened in 1914, the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) showcases art, culture, and nature from around the globe and across the ages. One of North America's most renowned cultural institutions, Canada's largest museum is home to a world-class collection of more than six million objects and specimens, featured in 40 gallery and exhibition spaces. As the country’s preeminent field research institute and an international leader in new and original findings in biodiversity, palaeontology, earth sciences, the visual arts, material culture and archaeology, the ROM plays a vital role in advancing our global understanding of the artistic, cultural and natural world. The Renaissance ROM expansion project (2007) merged the iconic architectural heritage of the original building with the Studio Daniel Libeskind-designed Michael Lee-Chin Crystal. A distinctive new symbol of Toronto for the 21st century, the Crystal marked the beginning of a new era for the ROM as the country's premier cultural and social destination.

Great place to learn new things. Not only a place for children, but for adults as well.

“Royal Ontario Museum”
Reviewed September 20, 2011

This museum had some wonderful exhibits. It was a pity the building seemed as jumbled as the outside looked. Until we got used to it, the floors were not square and there seemed to be mezzanine floors to confuse one. Rooms did not all have numbers or labels easily viewable and we constantly had to try and scrutinise the plan to find where we were or to go - not something we've had to do anywhere else.

“One of the best museums we've ever visited”

There is definitely something for everyone here. Easy to navigate. You could spend a whole day here! The European section was standout, as was the dinosaur area.

“Great museum”
Reviewed September 17, 2011

Take the guided tour - slightly "lightweight" but informative nevertheless, providing a peek at many sections that you can return to for a closer look.
