The National Ballet is performing Sleeping Beauty and when i order the tickets, I also book Nota Bene. Even if it was not a "go-to" for the theatre, the food is so good, it is always booked. And even at 6 on a Saturday, the restaurant is almost entirely booked. We decide on the "pre-theatre menu". You can order either 2 or 3 courses at a reduced rate. Both of us begin with a beautiful mozzarella cheese with Serrano ham, the saltiness of the thinly sliced ham balancing the moistness of the cheese. We might have had the bouillabaisse or organic greens but this cheese is almost like a burrata and we have chosen wisely. My main is a "Hot smoked Irish salmon" which is in deed salmon which has been lightly smoked, not a smoked salmon that is like lux as in lux and cream cheese. It sits on lentils and greens and is done perfectly with a centre that is almost raw. Very tasty. My husband orders the quail that is accompanied by mushrooms and I see him actually pick up the delicate bones in his hands . We have a side of Nota Bene's gorgeous frites that are lightly dusted in cheese and they too are fabulous. For desert we share a luscious rich chocolate brownie set in a swipe of caramel with banana ice cream. Banana is not my favourite but this ice cream flavour is so subtle that id does enhance the almost gooey chocolate. A glass of Napa 's pinot grigio dinner, and this fine meal is complete. The waiter get us out in time for the performance across the street. A lovely beginning for a perfect evening.
