“Holiday Inn Downtown”
Reviewed July 28, 2013

This is the 10th & worst hotel we've stayed in - travelling by hire car east from Calgary to Halifax.
Don,t be taken in by the fact it has 'Downtown' in its name. Tthe room is poor & a bit smelly. Food is ridiculously expensive.
Also the people are nothing like as friendly as we have found them elsewhere.

Luckily, only staying 2 nights to see the CN Tower.

Then off to Ganacoque which I hope will be as good as the rest of the Canadian towns & cities we've stayed at.

Canada needs to do something about Toronto! It lets the country down.

Room Tip: If you aren't coming to see Niagara & the CN Tower, give Toronto a miss. If you DO come, try...

Me and my friend spent one week in Canada in May 2013 and were looking for cheap accommodation, simply somewhere to lay our heads for the night. For £15 a night, you could certainly do a lot worse. The young lady who met us on arrival didn't speak particularly brilliant English, but was friendly and did try to make us feel welcome.

Our room was in the loft at the front of the building, and although the headroom was slightly limited in some places, the room was clean and the 'en-suite' (basically the entrance to the room with a shower curtain pulled across), was good enough for our needs. The beds were firm but very comfortable and we both had very good, uninterrupted sleep.

The hostel itself is relatively well located. Although it isn't right in the centre of the city, its location near an intersection of Dundas West and Spadina means travelling into the city isn't too difficult. Free wifi is advertised but in reality it isn't very reliable, although the hostel has a computer that is free to use, so the wifi isn't too much of an issue.

Overall, the hostel is more than adequate if you are planning on spending most of your time exploring this amazing city, on a limited budget and just need a place to sleep.

avarage location, bathroom and room were horribly small, if you are above 170cm you may find it difficult to take a shower :D, disastrous staff, the lady told us that we can pay $5 more if we want a room with a bathroom and a window, the thing was that the bathroom in the room didn't have a door :D fun fun fun :D so we had a room downstairs, somewhere in the basement ;D more fun :D avoid, maybe try looking for sth better :D

We stayed here for 5 nights in March/April 2012, when we arrived the lady tried to over charge us and we had to show our email confirmation to prove how much we should have to pay. Then we were told we would not be staying in the hostel but in other accommodation which was accross the road. The accomodation here seemed like student flats. We were shown to our room which did not have a TV, but did have a cooker in it. The bathroom was covered in hairs and we only were given half a roll of toilet roll. The next morning we told the staff we did not have a TV, which is something they advertise all rooms have, we were told this would be sorted out that day. Everytime we passed the owner we were told it would be sorted soon. Then at 10.30pm we got knock on the door saying they could not sort a TV for that room and we would have to move. The new room was cold and again had hairs everywhere. This room had no cooking facilities so we were unable to cook ourselves any food. On our fourth night as we were going to bed we saw a mouse run across the floor. We have now left and are very glad we are not staying any longer. We usually stay in the cheapest place and are normally very happy with what we get, however this was not the case with Toronto Travellers Home. I would not reccommend staying here and would advise you to pay a little more for somewhere that is cleaner and mouse free.

it's a good place to stay in toronto. nice location (chinatown), about 20 min walk to center. staff is very friendly and helpful, atmosphere in the hostel is really good. for a youth hostel it's not very cheap, but the place is clean and breakfast included, which is okay. if you are a light sleeper, bring earplugs, room had poor sound insulation. rooms are quite small but funcionable. rooftop is awesome, great view.

Room Tip: rather in the higher floors, to avoid street noise.

We felt really welcome at this place, the hostess was a gem who took great care of us and helped us out with everything we asked for.
Granted, the rooms are quite worn, the view is not so nice and they smear vaseline under the bed to ward off cockroaches, but it was very clean and beds were big and you could borrow slippers to avoid the cold floors. Much better than most places in big cities that I have stayed in that kept the same price class. The rooms had microwave and tv and the sheets were clean and whole.
Nothing fancy, but a nice place to stay if you are looking for something cheap for a few nights. We were very satisfied.

We made a world journey and stayed in different hostels all over the world. and this was, by far, the worst hostel we stayed in. We wouldn't go here again and advise you to take a look elsewhere. It's a cheap option, but then not even worth the money. They need to clean-up bad. Our room was in a basement and we couldn't even stand up staight. Terrible.
