“Love the area, but weddings/noise unacceptable”
Reviewed September 23, 2013

My wife and I have stayed at Cedar Meadows a few times. Very nice scenery and great restaurant.... I was very disappointed on a couple of occasions:

1. We had stayed during renovations of the hotel, which entailed having the carpets removed in the main hallway. This was very loud and dirty and took place in the early morning.

2. We had stayed this past Summer when a wedding was taking place. The wedding pavilion is a stone's throw from the main building where the rooms are located. Music was very loud (you could feel the bass in the room), kids were running and screaming literally 10 feet from our patio door. This persisted until approx 1 am and the "aftermath" of the wedding was still very loud until about 2 am.

This is unacceptable for a "resort". We are a young couple and usually don't mind the "partying", however my wife has been sick and I did not appreciate that she was unable to sleep 2 of our last 3 visits.

Suggestions:

1. Why are these wedding bookings (which I am sure are booked well in advance) not expressed to the guests when they are making a reservation? Also, why are the rooms not reduced in price??

2. Do your construction at say Noon, instead of at 8 or 9. This will ensure most of your guests are awake/checked-out.

3. Relocate your wedding pavilion. The Summer is the most beautiful time at Cedar Meadows with the scenery and animals. This also coincides with Wedding season. Not too sure why you would destroy it.
Although immeasurable, I will guarantee this has resulted in a loss of a large sum of money/return customer base,

4. As a professional business, do you realize that once you lose customers that they will never return? Being respectful, upfront and honest with customers will go a long way in having return clients. I have a hard time seeing young children, elderly, or business people returning to a "resort" where they cannot sleep and relax. We are well traveled people and I have never stayed at a hotel/resort where I cannot sleep from the noise.

"They" say that for every 1 customer that will make a written or verbal complaint, this actually represents 20 customers. FYI on our last stay we ran into a couple at the Timmins airport that had just stayed at Cedar Meadows and they said they would never return. What are the chances of that?

We are truly sorry that your experience at Cedar Meadows Resort & Spa did not meet your expectations.

All hotels/resorts go through renovations at one point or another. Sections of the resort (where the work was being done) were actually closed off (rooms were put out of order) in order to get the work done and not to disturb any of our in-house guests. Unfortunately, in order to get the job done, one must do the work during normal business hours (which is usually 9am-5pm). The company hired to change the carpets last year, did the work in a matter of a day and a half during these hours.

Cedar Meadows Resort & Spa is unique, especially when it comes to weddings. Since weddings are a time to celebrate, some wedding attendees can get a little loud at times and it can be difficult to control. It would be a shame to stop holding weddings completely because of a few loud guests and are not able to do so. When a noise complaint is brought to our attention, or any complaint for that matter, we do everything we can in order to resolve the issue. Most of our guests are aware, especially during wedding season, weddings take place almost every weekend and are advised upon arrival. We do move all "non wedding" guests on the East side of the resort (away from the tent). Depending on the type of room booked and/or the amount of nights a guest is staying, it may not always be possible to move all "non wedding" guests, however, 98% of the time, we are able to accommodate our guests.

We make it a point to keep our guests happy. In result, we have a list of regular returning customers who return at Cedar Meadows Resort & Spa for weddings, meetings, family getaways, or simply for a quick getaway to relax in our spa.

We thank you for your candidness and for your review. We have appreciated your business in the past and hope you will feel comfortable enough to try us again in the near future.

This Hotel/Resort is near the airport so it is some distance away from the downtown core. It does have a bar and restaurant so it has all you require in the one building. The rooms are clean but dated. The food is average but on the expensive side but not overly so. You definitely need a car if you stay here. Downtown is miles away. It is a very quiet hotel

The owners, the Lafleurs, are a wonderful friendly family. Mr Lafleur's creative vision in designing such an esthetically pleasant place in Timmins is refreshing. If you like animals, the nearby animal park - with swans, geese, deer ( and Bambi fawns), horses, moose is wonderful. The food is delish and for romance the little booths at the back for an evening meal are wonderful. Excellent experience in the spa too. All my dealings with service people have been wonderful but a special shout out to Melanie, Marie France, Lucas and Carole. O if you love the smell of wood fire smoke- the spa uses this to heat the Nordic baths- I love that smell. This is a wonderful experience for Timmins I would recommend to anyone.

I have stayed at Cedar Meadows several times. It is a lovely, comfortable and cozy hotel. The rooms are a little dated but that is part of the charm of the place. Don't expect flat screen tvs and premium amenities or you will be disappointed. The front desk staff is on the ball, friendly and attentive. The chef at the restaurant is a treasure. The manager/owner seems to be quite hands on and quick to fix minor repairs when necessary. I have stayed in the Upper Canada Suite, Radisson Suite and a chalet room. My favorite suite is the Hudson Suite as it has the Jacuzzi, fireplace and a separate bedroom area. The Chalet is not ideal if traveling with a senior as the toilet is located on the main level so awkward to get to in the middle of night. Some of the rooms have a noise issue if there is a dance or wedding. And for some reason I have noticed the other guests are quite loud in the hallways and often don't realize they can disturb other guests. We often enjoy dining at the restaurant as the daily specials are quite enjoyable. The servers in the restaurant are quite hit and miss as there is a high turn over of staff. The Nordic Baths are a relaxing escape. The Spa is a wonderful place to visit though the staff do not work on commission so I find it is hard to book an appointment. I would love them to get a hair stylist on staff at the Spa. I am quite sure they would have more time for spa appointments if they made a commission rather than an hourly rate. I recommend taking the Wildlife Tour for an up close and personal meet and great with bison, black swans, buffalo and moose. Our tour guide Gilles was knowledgeable and great with the animals.

Room Tip: Splurge and book a Jacuzzi suite.

Thank you very much for your comments! We appreciate your feedback.

We have updated some of our rooms and suites and still in the process of updating the remaining rooms. Most of our rooms do have flat screen mounted televisions.

As for spa services, our Spa Grande Nature is extremely busy (whether an employee is on commission or not has nothing to do with their availability). We recommend to book services a few weeks prior to your arrival date as their schedule fills up quickly. In regards to having a hair stylist on site, although this idea could work, our spa concentrates on wellness and health of our clients. Adding a hair stylist would take away from the relaxing "spa" feeling we are aiming for as oppose to a salon.

Thank you again for your review. We look forward to seeing you again in the near future!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The Nordic Baths were a great stress reliever! I'll agree that the room was just 'ok' but the courteous staff, restaurant & spa certainly compensated for it...recommended a stay there to my family & friends!

Room Tip: Our room was on the main fllor half-way between the spa & restaurant..perfect!
