We selected Bight to celebrate our first anniversary with an intimate group of friends & family and couldn't be happier with our choice! After reading some older reviews we had some concerns and decided to stop by in person before confirming our reservation, but concern immediately turned to excitement after seeing the amazing space and wonderful setting on the edge of the marina. The staff were warm and friendly and assured us that even though we would be dining on the Sunday evening of Thanksgiving weekend, we would have a great meal and great service, and they were certainly right!
We arrived just as the sun was beginning to set and the view was simply spectacular. Thunder Bay has one of the most unique, natural settings in Canada and I'm thrilled there is finally a wonderful place to dine that takes advantage of the world class views. The contemporary design of the restaurant is chic and comfortable, complimenting the ongoing updates to the marina area. We loved the use of wood, stone and other natural elements, combined with smooth shiny glass and stainless steel. Although we ate indoors this time, we look forward to dining al fresco in the warmer months on what will certainly become the best outdoor patio in the city! We also loved the large raindrop sculptures outside that are a wonderful homage to the water setting of this great city.
Our server for the evening, Tyler, was an absolute delight from the moment we arrived and during the evening provided us with the best service! Tyler has a wonderful warm approach with a thorough understanding of the menu, along with thoughtful recommendations. Our group has some eclectic dietary preferences and Tyler was spot on with every one of his suggestions, demonstrating great poise with an easy, friendly style. I also compliment him for his accurate assessment of our needs, being there when we needed him and letting us coast whenever it was time to just pause for a moment and reflect on the view and the wine.
The menu is great and I'm excited the talented team in the kitchen has created choices that are both reflective of the contemporary setting of the restaurant and respectful of the traditions of Northwestern Ontario cuisine, with updated twists. Every item our table selected was excellent, from tasty starts like Rainy River Elk Meatballs with Thunder Oak Gouda, homemade, fire-roasted tomato soup with mini grilled cheese, to wonderful mains such as rainbow trout or the marinated tofu. The wine list is extensive and covers a range wide enough for most to find something in their taste and price comfort. Given that this was a special celebration dinner we selected a rich & bold red that was beyond our usual price range, but the perfect choice for the evening and it's nice that Bight has these options available. We finished the evening with spectacular, in house created desserts that had everyone at the table clammering to share! And, great coffee too!
We thoroughly recommend Bight; the setting, staff, cuisine and overall experience is best in class and we welcome this fantastic addition to Thunder Bay!
