“Simply... friend of the Fiend”
Reviewed June 17, 2014

Want a quick bite and a great cup of tea when you are wandering around the boutiques in Algoma/Bay area? Delish sammies, savoury soups, quirky atmosphere and fun wait staff! Excellent spot to meet up with a friend or hang out by yourself, because sooner or later someone will happen by to join you. Love it!

This is a perfect place to chill out and have a coffee. The staff is nice, the music is good. They have a good quality free wi-fi. People here are having a good time

“Limited metered parking makes you rush the experience.”
Reviewed August 8, 2013

This is a neat addition to the Bay and Algoma boutique area. You don't really know there is a patio until after you are seated inside, and on a nice day it would be a welcome change. Parking in the area is limited and metered which is a major negative to relaxed dining and shopping in the area.
There is a very limited menu, and our first choice the vegitarian chili was not available. The restaurant seemed over staffed, but still the service wasn't great. The food prep. area is near the cashier and not particularly well organized.
Little touches are nice, the hand crafted mugs, atmosphere kind of fun. I ordered a salad and paid the extra to add chicken. Nothing special except the blueberry dressing. my wife ordered a turkey sandwich, a disappointment as not fresh turkey. Prices were higher than average.
The Chai Latte was OK and the coffee passable both seemed expensive for Thunder Bay and no refill offered.
Overall this was a ho hum kind of experience. The restaurant has potential but they need to look at their menu.
For visitors arriving from the USA on Highway 61 turn right at the fourth set of lights (Oliver Road) Turn Left at Algoma Street, it's two blocks on the left.

“Great Idea... now how to get to it?”
Reviewed July 22, 2013

The Bean Fiend looks cool but their hours of operation suck. Like most places in Thunder Bay, they close early so those who work during the day do not have the opportunity to frequent the place. To make it even worse, if you decided to spend your money on food, they stop serving food one hour in advance of their already early closing, ergo I have never tried their food to offer comment. So bizarre. They do have a lovely, clean café and decent selection of beverages and food as well as a lovely backyard garden and free WiFi. It is theoretically a welcomed alternative to coffee chains if only we could frequent it.
