The Stratford Festival should be a "must" for everyone in North America. Whether Shakespeare (my personal preference), a more modern comedy or even a musical on the program, one should not miss visiting Stratford once a year.

Fiddler on the Roof and Tommy were both brilliantly done. I really liked the re-invention of Tommy, having seen the earlier staging of this musical. Both shows shared about 80% of the same actors, but without the program you would never know they were the same actors.

Bravo.

We saw Fiddler on the Roof in it's last week. We expected to find a well oiled professional production. We found it weak, inconsistent in accents, very anglicised and lacking the level of quality we have historically come to expect in Stratford.
The 3 women playing the daughters were amazing, beyond that...

The magic of Stratford is an amalgam of talent, hard work and the most amazing creativity. I saw Fiddler on the Roof, (compelling and earthy), Blithe Spirit (absolute perfection), Tommy (Intellectually fascinating but somehow emotionless - technically superb), and Three Musketeers (a riotous visual feast) Don't forget the warehouse, the Festival Exhibition and behind the scenes tours to see how everything works. A special treat this year was the "In Vitro" series of discussions, works in progress and new ideas. Very exciting.

I was a supporting member of the Festival for 18 years until Des McAnuff became the Artistic Director 4 years ago. The quality of everything fell badly and fast. I stopped attending. Antoni Cimolino is now at the head and judging by the 5 shows I saw this season, the old magic is back. The shows are spectacular, the actors and house staff all seem to be having so much fun. This is a great way to see Broadway caliber theatre without paying Broadway prices.
