Description: For three decades The Keystone Alley Café has continually evolved, from its start as a small coffee shop into the popular casual fine dining restaurant that you see today. The Keystone Alley Cafe was named after the well-known Keystone Bakery located on these premises earlier. The 'alley' in the current name describes the area adjacent to the restaurant used for patio dining in the summer months. The Keystone Alley Cafe strives to provide a family style menu of fresh, bold flavoured foods, while supporting locally and sustainably. Over the years, many improvements have been made, including the addition of the "Key'd Inn", a spacious two bedroom suite rental situated above the restaurant.

“Expensive, but worth it”

We enjoyed dinner after the pre-theater rush so can't comment on what the "busy" time is like.
We thoroughly enjoyed our meals..the beef tenderloin and the liver entree were prepared to perfection.

“Sorry Saturday Night”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 1, 2014

June 14. Arrived on time for a reserved table and were placed in a cramped two seater table. Sort of a corner/wall. I asked if we could move and were told 'No'. We both ordered the Filet as it was a very limited menu. Rarely eat beef so thought I should be able to get a decent medium rare tenderloin for 38.00 my friend ordered hers more well done. 3 gnocchi seriously! The flour was overwhelming/ not cooked properly. A few mushrooms. The crab cake was one and unremarkable.
Showed the waitress the meat was over cooked and chewy. They offered us dessert for free. Overwhelmed by the merengue on the pavlova and minimal basic fruit,( melon...) and the trio of creme brûlée was ok. However my friend is diabetic and I would rarely order dessert. $21.00 for both/free. Yet with wine, cappuccino, and tip it still cost us $138.00 for less than satisfying ambiance and food. Later was approached by maître'd who said his chef doesn't usually make mistakes with steaks. After not receiving any satisfaction on our initial request to move tables he suggests WE should have told them sooner it was made wrong and he'd have made up another medallion. I don't know about you but eating a less than satisfying meal is usually enough of a turn off...waiting for a second one to be cooked is not pleasurable. I am thinking they probably should not have offered the dessert. The hole just got deeper. If you don't eat out in fine dining establishments maybe you would settle for this one. I won't be back unless someone guarantees me a fine dining experience from beginning to end.

“Great meal”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 30, 2014

We ate out side on a lovely evening. We had theater tickets that evening and the service was very prompt without any sense that we were being rushed. Both of our meals were outstanding and were presented with unique and delicious ingredients.

“A fine meal before a theatre performance”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 1, 2014

While my wife and I visit Stratford annually for a few days of theatre, this was our first meal at this restaurant. We were impressed. We arrived on a sunny evening but no one was sitting outdoors in the alley but on our request we were warmly invited to do so. The service was excellent and the choices on the menu were varied enough that we could each indulge our different tastes and the quality of the food was very high - beet soup, crab cakes, duck in a strong sauce, pickerel, rhubarb cobbler and 3 small crèmes brûlées.
We certainly plan to return next year.

“A wonderful place to dine”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 28, 2014

Whether it be lunch or dinner, as a local, this is my favourite. Close to the Avon Theatre for those catching a show. My favourite meal there is Friday lunch special...haddock with half and half chips and salad. Yummy!
