This was our first experience staying at a B&B. We found the facility to be less than we had expected. The parking was barely adequate. The landscaping was pretty basic and the garden poorly kept. The front entrance was cluttered with recycling bins etc and was the smoking lounge for the owners. Inside, the residence was in need of better housekeeping and the first thing we noticed was the dirty carpets. The stairs leading to the second floor guest rooms was narrow and cluttered with decorating objects. I was disappointed that there was no newspaper or other reading material available for guests, other than travel brochures and Festival Theatre programs.
The room we stayed in had a comfortable king sized bed with an en-suit bathroom with shower/tub combo. The room showed some deferred maintenance. Where the toilet lid fastened to the toilet bowl, there was dirt and/or rust that was not particularly nice to see. The shower was equipped with a soap/shampoo/conditioned dispenser that held no soap.
The hosts were very congenial and put on an after theatre wine & cheese get together for the guests. I had a glass of red wine that was served from a pitcher and I got a dried up dead fly with my last mouthful of wine.
Breakfast the next morning was adequate but limited in quantity and after putting the food out on the sideboard, the hosts disappeared leaving their guests to fend for themselves. We had to go out to the smoking lounge front porch to ask for help.
When the time came to check out, we had difficulty getting the host to realize that we wanted to leave and pay the bill. Their "office" was a cluttered desk in the front hallway and I had to sign the Visa draft using the stair railing for support.
I realize that Stratford is a "Tourist Town' and accommodations are limited, resulting in prices being somewhat higher than you would expect in a lot of other locations, but I don't feel that we got good value for the money here.
