York Street Kitchen is a great place for lunch. You can take out or eat in. The inside is dining area is small but adequate. The food is the main attraction. All the preparations are well done. I would recommend the roasted pepper goat cheese sandwich on delicious white bread.

I used to love this place but service and food quality have both dropped. Too bad but when you write your own order and they still don't get it correct, make you wait 20 minutes for a takeout sandwhich and provide a sandwhich that tastes 50% as good as it did 2 years ago then ownership needs to look hard at themselves. Won't be back.

FIrst, a housekeeping matter: The York Street Kitchen is no longer on York Street, but has moved about 200 feet into the center of town at 24 ERIE ST. It's right next to Boomer's Fries.

We've always liked the York Street Kitchen. Both before and now it is a smaller restaurant decorated somewhere between a real life 50's diner and your grandmother's kitchen, with some 60s bright colors thrown in for good measure. None of the table covers match, nor, for that matter, do the china or silverware. Each of the tables has different kitschy salt and pepper shakers. We saw two teenage boys playing some sort of game with the fat Santa Claus shakers at the next table; ours were Hawaiian souvenirs.

You can build your own sandwich from a host of options or you can go with any number of specials. In the case of a build your own sandwich, there are a variety of options from the bread, to the filling (ham, chicken, roast beef, turkey, vegetarian options, etc.), to cheeses, additions (I recall avocado and bacon, but there were many others) and condiments. You just mark what you want on a checklist form at the table and give it to the friendly waitress. You can get pretty much whatever you want, and if you don't like your sandwich it's pretty much your own fault. The specials are also pretty good. I had essentially a Cobb Salad sandwich with chicken, avocado, and bacon. The portions were ample.

The service was fast and enthusiastic. We sat inside, but there is also sidewalk seating outside. They also have takeout, and it's only a three-minute or so walk to the lakeside park if you want to eat there.

York Street Kitchen is a very good sandwich place and a nice place to grab lunch before seeing a show.

Build your own sandwich with many different options to choose from. The staff was super friendly and attentive.

The only ding on the place is that it was a very expensive lunch for the amount of food that we got. We had two sandwiches, two pop and a side of potato salad (very small bowl) and it cost us $30.

I would go back to this place because the food was really good, but I would go back knowing that it was going to cost me a little more.
