This lovely, quiet place on the outskirts of Stratford (but still convenient) was a find. The rooms were older, but showed evidence of improvements. More importantly, the room was spotlessly clean!

The motel is located on a lake, with many walking trails. Bikes, boats, and flower filled gazebos are available for guest use. A delight to relax between plays in town at this peaceful, natural spot. It made a week end get away feel much longer, we were able to shed the city and really breathe.

The owner Kim was friendly and welcoming, even joining us during the (free) breakfast and sharing wonderful conversation.

I almost don't want the word to get out about this "serenity spot" as I would like to keep this gem all to myself!

Thanks for a great review. We are updating the furniture in our double rooms this year. They will still have a warm woodsy feel but all the modern conveniences. We hope to have you again soon!

We love Stratford and have went there for years as a day trip while visiting elsewhere in Ontario. A few years ago we discovered the Foerst Motel and it is now, along with Stratford a favorite destination. The McCarthy House Chalet has a view of a small lake, hot tub on the deck, hiking trails, bikes, comfortable peace and quiet. Outdoor fireplaces for a nice evening along the lake. I can't say enough about this place. Package deal made it a bargain. Owners are friendly and manage the place with pride and dedication.

Room Tip: The McCarthy House Chalet is great, other rooms are okay too.

I've stayed at the Forest Motel many times years ago. I've always loved the quiet location with a lake and scenic wooded area. This was my first time back since the new owners took over, and I was surprised by the amount of continuous improvements they are making. They created a hiking trail around the lake, and they have bikes and canoes for guest use. The rooms have been updated with refrigerators, microwaves, and nice woodworking. The rooms are not fancy, but very clean. I especially liked the extra touches, like umbrellas in the room for guest use, a bag of popcorn for the microwave, and of course the chocolate on the nightstand. My husband and I want to come back in the off season to try out the snow shoes.

Just at the tip of Ontario St before entering the core of Stratford is this beautiful hideaway nestled in trees, wooded area with places to sit, enjoy, fish, bike, relax, bbq, hike around the lake. The owners, Kim and Conroy were excellent. The continental breakfast provided was fresh fruit, breads, bagels, English muffins and for the gluten intolerant world, cereal with soy milk. I was in heaven. What a place and I would recommend to all, Great place for the children as well. basketball net with ball and outdoor fire pits and the rooms were spectacular. Don't miss this outdoor retreat for the whole family.

Room Tip: we stayed in 27. our own room at the back of property with use of hot tub ($40/night-saltwater) picnic table, lounge chairs and own bbq. 2 queen beds with kitchenette fully equipped.

My wife and I discovered the Forest Motel and Retreat surfing the web for a place to stay during our stay in Stratford. We took a chance and made our reservation based on their website and the positive reviews that we read. Arriving on the property we were pleasantly pleased with what we saw, although the “lake” is actually an x-large pond by Muskoka standards everything was perfect. We were greeted and checked in professionally and we were offered information about the area. We stayed in the motel style units which were up to standards, clean and well maintained. A fridge and microwave were in the room as well as complimentary popcorn. The continental breakfast was well done and well stocked. A nice treat was the freshly baked cinnamon roll. Trays are offered making it easy to carry things to the well-appointed patios by the lake. I also noticed bbq ‘s and a fire pit were available to the quests. Overall it was just a nice place to spend the day, very tranquil and pleasing to the senses. Your hosts seem like wonderful people, very pleasant and helpful. I guess the best complement was that as we were leaving we both said “nice place lets come back”.
