We have travelled here twice now and stayed in the Chalet both times. We had an outdoor hot tub that overlooked a small lake/pond with wildlife all around us. The Chalet offers a fridge, microwave, coffeemaker, bbq and all utensils and dishes. There is a nice table and chairs in the room and have 2 double/queen beds that are cozily matched with a gas fireplace. Absolute beautiful property and of course, a nice little breakfast in the morning. We absolutely love this place.

Room Tip: Ask for the Chalet and the hot tub.

My fiance and I spent a lovely two days at the Forest Motel. Before arriving I had no idea where we were going and when we pulled into the laneway my breath was taken away. The grounds are so beautiful and serene.
We spent two nights in the B&B building, in a room that was amazing. It was equipped with a huge bathroom which included jacuzzi and shower, a fire place in the bedroom and a sitting room with a couch and table. It was impecably decorated and I was in awe the moment we walked in.
The owners of the Forest Motel are incredibly accommodating, kind and friendly. They helped my fiance plan and execute a very special getaway for us and we will be forever grateful to them.

We stayed here one night while visiting family in October. The grounds are beautiful and worth a walk around, and all the extras, like canoes, bikes, outdoor seating, are fantastic if you are there in season to use them. The geese on the lake at night were a welcome sound.

We stayed at the McCarthy house, which was like a rustic cottage. No fancy decor, or amenities, but enough if you want to feel like you're at a friend's cottage. The kitchenette is a nice addition for a morning tea, or late night hot chocolate.

Nice continental breakfast in the morning, with gluten-free cereal as an option, which was a nice surprise.

We did not pay to use the optional outdoor jacuzzi, although after we left, we noticed the charge on our credit card bill. Seems that management thought we had tampered with the rope securing the cover and charged us for the use. A few phone calls to dispute the charge has resulted in a refund.

I am so glad that Nutka found our place to be such a lovely getaway. We apologized for any inconvenience regarding the charge on the hot tub since it was tampered with at some point during this time of stay between arrival and departure obviously by someone else because I personally locked it the morning of their arrival. We sincerely hope that this has not caused any dissatisfaction with the customer and welcome them back anytime, since our goal is to make everyone's stay an enjoyable, comfortable and great experience here at the Forest Motel & Woodland Retreat.

I wasn't sure by the outside what to expect but the inside of our unit was beautiful. The bed was comfortable with a nice comforter and decorator pillows, a stainless steel fridge, microwave, flat screen t.v., comfortable lounger and the little touches like microwave popcorn and magazines to read! It rained but it was still beautiful walking in the woods - we hope to come back when the weather is nicer. There were also a few different places to sit outside and enjoy the lake without having to share your space if you were looking for a romantic getaway.

The owners obviously love their role - there is a history of the motel along with personal recommendations if you are new to the area as to where to eat and what to see.

I really have no complaints - only compliments. Very close to Stratford and at the end of the street a great antique place with all kinds of stuff!

Room Tip: We had a room close to the office which was quiet. The only warning I should give is if you are a l...

We discovered this place by accident - talk about luck. The designation of "motel" does not do it justice. It is less than five minutes from downtown Stratford's restaurants and theatres and yet it feels like cottage country! It is located on McCarthy lake and the property is lovely- wooded and rustic with lots of wild and tended flowers, birds and waterfowl, coyotes that howl when the train goes by, and the nicest owners you could ask for.
There are lovely seating areas on the lakeshore with firepits and picnic tables, and paddle boats and canoes are available to use and are included in the price.
We always book a chalet which is down a private, winding road from the motel and has a beautiful view of the lake. It has a good sized bathroom, large bedroom/sitting room with two double beds,a table and chairs, a kitchenette and a fireplace. Outside there is a private sitting area with two lounge chairs, a picnic table, a BBQ and a two person hottub that overlooks the lake.
The beds are comfortable and everything is spotlessly clean and well maintained. Some of the reviews have mentioned how dated the rooms are but that is part of the whole cottage feel of the place and a big part of it's charm as far as I'm concerned. Everything is as contemporary as it needs to be and a place as beautiful and relaxing as this does not need a flat screen - we were fine with what was there and spent most of our time in the hottub listening to the frogs, coyotes and Canada geese socialising and watching the fireflies and shooting stars put on a light show.
The use of the hottub, if you rent the chalet,is not included in the room charge and you must arrange for that and pay an additional daily charge - quite a good idea as you don't have to pay for something you wouldn't use if that was your choice.
We love this place.

A true gem of a place - in the woods. With lots of little seating areas around a gorgeous little private lake, gardens and walking trails - this is the place to overnight for visits to Stratford, Ontario!
Breakfast is included and rooms are comfy, quiet and private. We are going back next year - for sure!

Room Tip: We had the king bed room

This is a very pleasant, family-run motel in a pretty woodland setting. However, light sleepers like my husband and me should know that loud trains go by on nearby tracks, at around 2 a.m. and again at around 6 a.m. Even with the windows closed, the noise woke us up. Also, although I love to swim, I didn't find the lake appealing at all. It may be deep and clean as described, but there's a thick wide layer of acquatic plants on the surface and the water is very murky. Having said this, the beds are comfortable, it's convenient to have a microwave and small fridge in the room, the breakfast has nice fresh fruit and tea.
