The Blue Spruce B&B is by far one of the most amazing Bed & Breakfasts I have been lucky enough to stay in. Where to begin?
The food is absolutely fantastic! The owners also accommodated for the fact that I was vegetarian, which was great! We're talking about delicious fruit cups, and large delectable eggs benedict and omelettes, homemade breads and hashbrowns/potatoes, orange juice, coffee, tea etc. It's more like a brunch than a breakfast and I found it MUCH better than quite a few restaurants breakfasts I've had. They also put out fresh flowers from the garden each morning on my table.
I stayed in the Writer's Room myself, but all the rooms are quite simply beautiful. The decor is great and everything is meticulously clean. I also found small things that made it worthwhile (they have q-tips/makeup remover pads etc in the bathroom, and even a small towelette with a small sign that states to use it). Everything down to the smallest details are well done. All electrical outlets work, and there are TV's and radios in the room, and even a binder that gives you a rundown on the closest shops, wireless internet access, etc. The bed was also one of the warmest and comfiest I'd ever slept on. There's also a coffee machine in the room with coffee, waters and tea for your convenience too!
Common areas are filled with books and old albums that you could spend hours in. There's also a small chess set up in the sitting room, and they have a communal computer and printer in case you want to print out your tickets alone. Tons of interesting photos and pictures and autographed books in every nook and cranny Upstairs where the rooms are, there's a mini fridge with drinks and milk for your coffees and a small plate with snacks like granola bars and fruit. There's also a gorgeous wrap around porch with numerous seating areas, and even though the gardens in the back weren't in their prime, you could tell how beautiful they were!
The owners themselves are fantastic! Absolutely great people that are friendly, easygoing and very knowledgeable about Stafford. As a young solo traveler who had never been to Stratford, they recommended great restaurants, such as Mercer Hall and Pazzo, and also various bookstores, and shops that were must-sees. Since I had arrived by train, I was picked up at the station by one of the owners and had a short tour of the town, which included showing me where the theaters were. These people love owning the bed and breakfast, and it shows through their welcoming attitudes. You feel instantly at home.
Location-wise, the Blue Spruce is very close by the downtown core (a 10 min walk), so I was able to walk downtown and to the Avon Theatre in about 10 minutes (20 if you walk to Festival Theatre).
The Blue Spruce in total made my experience to Stratford absolutely fantastic and I recommend it to anyone of any age, whether you're a family, couple or just by yourself.
