“Better than the first time ....”
Reviewed September 17, 2013

We first visited SF August 2012, on a hot summer day. This time, we came on a weekday, so the crowds were a bit smaller. Some improvements that made this trip better: 1) the budgie house, where free flying colourful birds were about (for $1, you could purchase a stick covered in bird seed, and they would basically land on your hand/arm to feed - great experience for our 6 yr old), 2) the high ropes course is now incl. in park admission.
One thing I would recommend is bringing a water bottle w/ you ... most of the park is w/o shade so you could get pretty hot in the summer.

“Cats are hiding, birds talk, monkey smiled :)”
Reviewed September 13, 2013

We went on a very hot day (35 degrees/40 degrees with humidity). We took a picnic and drinks so I'm not sure how much the food costs. The tickets were quite cheap and we didn't ride the tram as we like to wander around and snoop :D. In order to get out of the heat, you have to get off the asphalted path and walk into some of the gravel paths. The animals were not very active as it was warm but we were able to coax a jaguar out. (it looked somewhat hungry... or maybe they always look that way). You can feed some of the more gentle animals (they have little food stands that you can put money into... feed the lambs for a loonie). The animals look well cared for. The only complaint I have is that unlike the Toronto zoo the inclosures are not dug into the ground (so you aren't viewing the animals from above) so if you want pictures, you get the cages as well. But the animals can get much closer to the cages (except for some of the electrical ones... the animals probably learned at some point not to touch the cages). Go if you want to see animals fairly up close. Skip it if you aren't physically fit enough to walk around on you own (as the Tram didn't seem to make many stops and some areas weren't covered by the Tram.

“Lots of fun for kids under 12”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

If you are expecting something like the African Lion safari - this is not it. However it has lots of activities for children, especially for younger ones. It is about 7 minutes drive from Crystal Beach so if you go there for a weekend and one of the day is not so great for the beach, this would be a great option to do something else. We went with my 5 year old son on a very hot day. The animals looked happy, healthy and very active. They are in a rather widely spread area so make sure you are wearing comfortable footwear or use their hop on-hop off little wagons. They stop quit frequently and you can get off look around that section of the zoo and hop on the next wagon. For us that was the only option as our son doesn't coop with the heat very well and most of the are very sunny. The monkeys were the most fun as they were very excited about something and they made a lot of noise. They have educational tours in different time of the day - checked the schedule at the park entrance. My 5 year old really enjoyed the playground which has a lot of climbing structure and it is right beside the splash pad which was refreshing to children and adults. If you are looking to challenge yourself and older teenagers definitely try the rope climbing structure. They have sand box as well so if you go with smaller children make sure you bring some shovels and buckets for them to dig. Even my 5 year old went on it all by himself, (they have to be 48 inch tall to go on with out a chaperone). The park also have a mini bungee-jumping area and a small section to ride various fun equipment like mini roller coaster and a mini merry-go-around. Overall it is fun for the whole family.
