Great food. Went two nights in a row. Second night the server; Kevin M. wasn't as great as the wonderful guy the night before, but.... food was great.

“Better steak than the Keg - very good restarant but it needs a shake up”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 3, 2011

This used to be one of the top five restaurants in St. Catharines in my view. It's still pretty good but it needs a few changes to put back on top. The venue is beautiful - great location at Ontario St and QEW, high cielings, spacious, quiet, and pretty. Nice bar with outdoor seating and separate smoking area. It's all about the steaks - I find the steaks are generally superior to other restaraunts and grilled nicely as ordered. The pizza from the wood buring oven is also very good. The wine list offers several decent wines that are not overpriced. The interior decor was still top notch and trendy 15 years ago, but is starting to show it's age a bit now. Dare I say it could be a little better managed? I see dust on cross bars of the dining chairs which should be wiped down. The place doens't "shine" like it used to. The service was feeling a little "tired" to me. Let's get some enthusiastic and upbeat younger men and women to help serve in the dining room. I want to smile and enjoy the service. And spruce the interior a bit and bring it back to Wildfire standards. Wildfire has such potential - make it happen please !

“Maybe we should have ordered steak”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 15, 2011

We were very hungry and did not wish to drive out from our nearby hotel, so we walked across the street to this restaurant - nice wood smoke suggested some good grilled food.

The positive experience ended there. An unattractive stack of chairs was piled to the right of the hostess station inside. The restaurant was less than half full on Saturday evening.

The food was, at best, mediocre. Perhaps we should have ordered steak, which seems to be the featured item. My salmon was covered with a bottled sauce (probably teriyaki) and, although fully cooked, had received very little attention from the kitchen. Red potatoes were good, but steamed vegetables were too firm/barely cooked. Dinners were mostly over $22/plate, without salad or soup - expensive for what you get.

A word for the staff. The hostess was very friendly and helpful, and our waitress Sarah could not have been nicer or more efficient. But this was otherwise a restaurant to skip. Jack Astor's is just a couple of doors down the street.

“Rude Staff & Slow Service”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 6, 2008

I've been here a total of three times, but won't be going back for a fourth. The first time we went about 4 years ago it was good, we went back about two years ago and had slow service and poorly cooked food. We figured we would give them one more shot, and that was a mistake. We had problems getting seated (even though we had reservations) and both the waiter and bartenders were very rude.
The Keg is the better steakhouse in St. Catharines, sure it's a chain, but I've had nothing but great meals and service there, plus the refurbished old building it's in is very cool.
