“Makes me feel the 70's Exist!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 7, 2013

Now I'll start by saying that I grew up and lived on these streets in the 70's and with that said Ernies was there as it is today. I'm very thankful for this place existing and the whole staff, decor, food and entire meaning of Ernies is absolutely my twinkle to my past.
The food is great and you can glimpse at the cook(s) in the kitchen and you will like being served by real waitresse!

Don't fret and give it a go... Your mom will agree!

“Let there be light!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 14, 2013

That's a cool tradition waiting until opening to turn the lights on inside the restaurant, I half expected a new day countdown to lights on...but alas there was only a simple flip of the switch.

What's interesting is as early as 6:30 there are customers inside the restaurant, sitting in the dark waiting for lights on. They are being served coffee, but not food at least not quite yet.

Perhaps it's because it's just so dang cold outside in the winter or maybe in the summer the early morning ontario mosquitoes lay waste to anyone standing around outside waiting for the place to start their day.

it's an interesting place to say the least , a classic stool/counter booth operation. the waitress had about 7 stool customers and I'd say 6 or 8 more in the booths waiting to order before the lights flipped on.

She was very efficient, going from cust to cust jotting down orders , pouring coffee while 3 others were in back slinging food.

I ordered two eggs bacon, potatoes and brown toast with coffee for around 6 bucks. Jam is in a little paper cup.
I wish I had ordered the sausage instead, there was a lot of bacon but it was only ok.

the menu is posted on the board at the rear of the restaurant, perhaps there are printed menus but no one was using one and just ordering like they'd been there before plenty of times in their lives.
There are some nice little sayings written around the walls, and the crowd is mostly regulars with the exception of the lone tourist sitting at the counter looking to get rid of a bunch of silver and gold looking coins weighing down his small frame.

Certainly worth the trip to travel back in time i or just to see a waitress really on her game.

“Real food real service real value”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 19, 2013 via mobile

You know it's got to be a great place when you've been around for sixty three years. Food is great diner, very delicious. Being gluten intolerant it's great to find a place that makes everything from scratch. Servers have great sense of humour. If you're looking for pretentious this is not the place. Just have fun!

“Bring it on!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 2, 2012

When you have had it with all of the new waves of cliche rich, micro portions, this is where you want to stop. All pretenses are left at the door. This little family establishment is one of the last bastions of old fashioned home cooking. The portions are generous and the service is fast, friendly and straight up. If it's a hearty breakfast that you want or just some wholesome soul warming home cooked soup then Ernie's has it waiting for you.
Just in case you happen to be someone who enjoys a walk on the wild side and care to dabble in hot sauce they cater to your tastes as well. When I asked for a dash of hot sauce to go with the generous side of home fries, the waitress brought a basket filled with a variety of hot, hotter and hottest sauce for me to choose from. Caution, do not let the little children play with the hot sauce, these varieties has some serious heat.
Hopefully you find the same sort of heart warming, belt tightening, old fashioned feel good experience if you stop in as well. In regards to the hot sauce, I warned you!

“Sorry about the FLU.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 19, 2012

My husband and I go at least once a month. The last time was a week ago and there was a sign that they were closed because of the flu. God bless them for not spreading it around but I missed having my monthly liver. The place looks like a hole in the wall but the food is absolutely amazing. The girls who serve are very good and friendly. Never, ever been disappointed in the 35 years or so of them being in business. Hope they open soon.
