How can you ask for anything more. Great people, awesome atmosphere and feather pillows to boot. I stay at the Inn every trip to the Sault. It's a total one stop. From the great food at Casey's, live bands in the bar and outdoor hot tub, this is not a stay, it's an experience. Join the President's Club rewards program. Excellent benefits and always an extra warm welcome.

Room Tip: Every room is awesome.

Before I begin this review, I'd best state that this is not normally the kind of accommodation we choose on holiday as we usually prefer something a little more personal and this hotel reminded us somewhat of those generic Holiday Inn-type hotels - although perhaps with slightly more character. However, there are certainly good points in its favour.

We found the location slightly off-putting as it's near a Wal-mart and situated on a strip full of large generic retail stores. Driving out of the car park was a bit of a nightmare if you wanted to turn left as the road is so busy, being the main thoroughfare into Soo.

Our room was similar to those of the Holiday Inns in which we've stayed. It was of a good size, clean and comfortable, with good beds.

Staff were very helpful and kindly allowed us to store our luggage with them overnight whilst we took the Agawa Canyon and Algoma Passenger Train tour. (We stayed at the hotel 2 nights prior and 1 night after our train journey.) You can also request a packed lunchbox to take with you on the train, and I have to say that we were very impressed by the contents - it looked so much better than any of the others we saw that people had picked up elsewhere and we'd highly recommend it.

So, whilst the location wasn't fantastic and the hotel was a bit generic, we generally considered it to be pretty good value at the price.

Thank you for your review, and glad you enjoyed your stay. We were somewhat surprised at the generic label you gave us, and I will explain. The Inn was conceived and built by the Hilsinger family, who have been operating the hotel for 37 years. So we have always prided ourselves on being a stand-alone, non-cookie-cutter type of property. Each addition to the Inn has been architecturally designed by local talent, and in every respect that design has echoed our passion for the great wilderness areas that border the north of Sault Ste. Marie. A lot of wood, earth tones, fireplaces, and local art. Back then, the Inn was surrounded by open fields, and small businesses and motels…and that is where big box stores love to build. And so it started with the Home Depot and Walmart, and so on…great boons to our city and our shopping guests, but as you say, uninspiring. We have countered that by creating landscaped courtyards whose trees are now taller than the hotel. We have the only all-season outdoor whirlpool in the Sault. There are streams and waterfalls and tranquil resting places. And our windows actually open, so that you can enjoy fresh air in your room. The new Hub Trail lands at our door, and it is only a moment’s drive to superb hiking and Nordic skiing. Guests who come to the city to shop enjoy the proximity of the new stores, and the downtown areas, but love the Inn because of its courtyards, large pool area, and restaurants…and of course our friendly staff whom you have so kindly commended.

My husband and I travelled from Toronto to Sault Ste. Marie in order to take the Agawa Canyon Train Tour. We booked a 2 night package which included this hotel. We were greeted with a welcome bag which included peanut brittle, cookies, fudge, chocolate and other yummy treats. We also got two books of tickets for free admission to museums, galleries and a zoo. Never having been in Sault Ste. Marie before, we had lots of questions for the young lady at the front desk. We found her to be very courteous and extremely helpful. Although check-in time isn't until 3:00 p.m., we arrived at 12:45 p.m. and our room was ready. The room was perfect -- we had ordered a king size bed and there was a small fridge in the room. The front desk suggested a restaurant for lunch and a restaurant for dinner and even made our dinner reservations for us. Our package also included breakfasts at the hotel and both my husband and I were very pleasantly at our choices and how delicious the food was. I must say that everyone at the hotel and in the restaurant were extremely friendly and helpful. The train ride was wonderful -- the colours were magnificent this past weekend. We did check out the pools and hot tubs, both indoors and outdoors. They looked great, but unfortunately our days and evenings were so long that unfortunately we didn't get to take advantage of them. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone going to Sault Ste. Marie!

This is a lovely review, and we thank you for it. You know, people come to Sault Ste. Marie after Labour Day, thinking it will be off-season, only to find the inns and hotels are full. But the red maples here are so brilliant in September, that the fall colour tour train is fully reserved, and accommodations are hard to find. So we’re glad you pre-booked your Agawa Canyon Tour Train package with Algoma’s Water Tower Inn & Suites. And we hope you can re-visit us sometime and relax in our waterfall pools and spas. The autumn foliage is just at peak colour, and we’ll still have some spectacular fall days yet. Lucky us, to be so close to Lake Superior’s wilderness coast…and we love to share it!

We always stay at the Water Tower Inn when we plan to spend the night at the Soo. The rooms are exceptional, spotless and beautifully decorated. The beds are extremely comfortable with generous pillows and fresh duvet covers. Their pool, sauna and hot tubs are a delight for the children and ourselves after a long day traveling. It is a pleasure to walk down the inside hallways to a very enjoyable meal at the on site restaurant and bar. The staff could not be warmer and more helpful. The icing on the cake is that they treat your traveling dog with the same warmth and hospitality that they do you. Definitely a two thumbs up location for the weary traveler!

Room Tip: All of the rooms are equally nice. We personally prefer to stay on the back side of the hotel becaus...

Well thank you. The Inn is great for family vacations as well as business travel because of the extraordinary number of room and suite layouts…plus the dining and recreation options all under one roof. There is plenty of parking for large vegicles, trailers and other rigs. And travelers with snowmachines and motorcycles especially appreciate the indoor storage we can offer for their machines. We look forward to your next visit.

Starting with the exceptional front desk staff (thanks Keri!) my sons and I fell immediately into a state of comfort and care. After a long day on the road from Montreal, complete with an auto breakdown, we melted into the warmth and family-like atmosphere of the Water Tower Inn. The room was just right for the three of us, clean and spacious. The salt-water pool was perfect for burning off hours of constraint in the car and we indulged in the outdoors hot tub. The staff made my boys feel heard when they had needs, like directions to the ice machine (very important when one is eight years old) or how to order room service.

As we prepared for the return to Montreal three weeks later, we all agreed that booking ahead for a room at the Water Tower Inn was a must. So we did, and the second stay showed us that the first experience was the norm and not an exception. This hotel is on our list of recommendations to friends and family. Thanks!

What a wonderful review, and beautifully written, I might add. Our family built, expanded and have operated the Inn for 37 years. We now have 3rd generation family members involved in operations. Plus exceptionally friendly staff, some of whom have been part of our family for 20+ years. So from our family to yours, we thank you for taking the time to write about your pleasant experience at Algoma’s Water Tower Inn and Suites.

We spent one night as a stopover in Sault Ste. Marie on our way to Lake Superior Provincial Park. Came with my husband and 2 boys (5 and 7 yrs.). Reception was welcoming. Room was very clean and up to date/modern. Great firm bed with pillowtop. New. Boys slept on a pullout double which was made up for them when we arrived and was also very comfortable. Bought the Family Room and meal package. Great deal! Included Breakfast and dinner in Casey's restaurant attached to the hotel. Food was excellent and more than enough choices to suit all our discernable tastes. The home-made granola at breakfast was fabulous and the hostess and waiters/ressess were very friendly and eager to please...even though they knew that all taxes and gratuities were included in the package price! $249 got us everything. Much cheaper than buying it all seperately. Before dinner we had a great swim in their salt water pools and huge hottubs. The sauna was great. Pool area and change rooms exceptionally clean and quiet. Pool chemistry was right on and wasn't at all busy. The indoor waterfall feature wasn't working when we were there. Had a beer poolside. Kids had great fun. Don't expect a view from the hotel room, but if you're looking for a great spot on a stop-over or even to spend a couple of nights it is right on the highway through town and within easy access of all local tourist attractions. Will definitely stay there again if needing to stop-over in the Sault...on either side of the border!
