I recently rode my bike along the pathways of Centenial Park and enjoyed the new trails and sights along the way. August is a great season to see this park as the flower gardens are truly magnificent with a variety of annual and perennial plants and shrubs. The trail along the water takes you to a number of interesting places: a wetlands/pond area with a secluded deck with a view down the river, a large cement water pond shaped like the Great Lakes, a lovely patio restaurant at the marina that is open to the public, a memorial gardens, sculptures, fountains, monuments, and did I mention the steam locomotive? This park is also where you board the "Duc d'Orleans" boat for either a lunch cruise (Monday to Saturday) or afternoon cruise of the river (Sunday only) that is quite lovely. As you keep walking along the pathways, you can connect to the interesting shops and restaurants of Sarnia downtown just up the hill, or across from the Marina at the other end. The park also boasts a new entertainment stage where events are scheduled throughout the summer. Clean and well kept, this park is a gem.
