Great displays in a beautiful setting pull you into paddling and canoeing, even if you're not already an avid fan. The role of canoes in the settlement of Canada's interior is well covered too. We really enjoyed it.

“A Unique and Surprisingly Fascinating and Fun Experience.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 2, 2013

The CCM is really worth checking out. I'm always telling my friends who are visiting that it is one of the places they must check out while in Peterborough. What they have is a fascinating history of the exploration and development of Canada told with the canoe being the common thread that has always been the critical mode of transportation in this country going back to ancient times with First Nation and Inuit inhabitants. They have some great videos showing construction of canoes and occasionally have live demonstrations. Great little gift shop as well which is ideal to find a little something to take home if you are visiting. GO! You will not be disappointed.

“Fascinating!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 29, 2013 via mobile

This museum has an extensive and very well organized and preserved collection of canoes used by the early European explorers and native inhabitants of Canada. Displays are attractive with excellent documentation and a logical layout. Staff of the museum are very helpful and knowledgeable and greatly enhanced our visit. But it is more than just a collection of artifacts. These early watercraft document the history of Canada both as it was known to the First Nations and as it was explored, mapped and colonized by the Europeans. All Canadians should make a pilgrimage to this museum to connect with our roots.

“Very interesting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 21, 2013

Visited here as a curiosity. It is very well presented, with a surprising number of interactive displays and examples of all types of canoes that range from the expected but extremely varied native canoes to the earliest examples of canoes that were made for commercial use. Lots of activities for kids both educational and just for fun as well as a puppet theatre. There were so many fascinating displays that it was a bit unbelievable that canoes could have a museum dedicated to them never mind it actually being interesting and enjoyable. Well worth a visit.

“Great Canoes, Kayaks”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 23, 2013

This was a well laid out museum, with several exhibits that said "touch me", and great descriptions of the object. Very near the entrance, you could fish!..There was a display of paddle making, near the area of the instructions for constructing a canoe. The gift shop was reasonably priced, and sold Canadian crafts.
