This was an emergency walk in stay.

We were booked into a local B&B, but the owner had forgotten about us and gone out for the evening!

I will not name the guilty party as she was genuinely mortified at her mistake and offered us a free stay when we were next in town!

This is what I regard as a fairly typical Holiday Inn. The room was big but the décor somewhat dated and in need of a refurb. Probably true of the whole building.

We opted for a lake view room as we did not fancy the standard room overlooking the parking lot and main road. We found it to quiet (once we turned off the air con) and despite the dated, tired looks, it was comfortable overall and we got a good night's sleep after a slightly stressful evening.

We only really had contact with the front desk staff who were great, and gave us a late check out next day.

Thank you Holiday Inn!

Room Tip: Get a lake view room

I've not read any prior reviews as I write this, so my apologies if I'm just re-hashing what other guests may already have said.

Stayed here one night for a conference. Hotel is a bit dated but well-maintained. Rooms are a decent size, but try to stay on the top floor (labelled the 4th but it's actually the 3rd since the 1st floor does not appear on the front of the hotel), and try for a waterfront view. Rooms facing the back on the first two floors that you might think would be waterfront actually look out onto the enclosed pool, and have a chlorine smell. Each room does have a fan that does a decent job of pulling out the smell, but it's noisy and at full speed sounds like a muted jet engine. Even at the lowest speed the one in my room still sounded loud. Not sure the noise level of rooms that faced out on the front and the road, but I would imagine the best rooms are on the top floor facing the water.

After a mixup at the front desk over my room - which I must add was handled very courteously and professionally by the front desk staff, all of whom were clearly switched on to customer service and were truly outstanding - I was given a different room that was just as nice, though it wasn't on the top floor and faced onto the dreaded indoor pool. Bed was firm and comfortable, choice of soft or firm pillows. Bathroom was small but very clean.

I did not have an opportunity to eat at the hotel's restaurant or bar, but they looked very nice. Conference room was about par with many other hotels, nothing outstanding but it did the job and was very clean. The hotel is located very close to several restaurants, some within reasonable walking distance, and there's a Tim's directly across the street which is very handy.

If and when I return to Peterborough I would consider staying in this hotel again. Though there are newer and better-appointed Holiday Inn properties, this was a decent hotel overall, and the staff certainly made my stay that much better.

Room Tip: Ask for top floor facing the back (waterfront). Try to avoid rooms on the two lower floors if they face the back, particularly if you are sensitive to chlorine. It's not overpowering but is definitely a presence.

I have stayed at this hotel many times over the years, largely because of its location. It is a short walk - 2 or 3 blocks - from the heart of the downtown area which has many fine restaurants and small locally owned stores. Rooms near the pool have a chlorine odour and many reviewers have noted that the rooms on the river side are much quieter than those on George St. The reception staff is always friendly and willing to help out on providing help. The free internet service is also a plus.

The dining room serves very good meals, especially the dinners, and has a nice ambiance and excellent service. Even if you don't stay here try the dining room for a quiet enjoyable meal!

We took our room in the afternoon and went to our party. When we came back at 9hpm, we couldn't find a parking spot other then near the last parking space. We went to the reception to be told that it was possible that our car would be towed as the parking lot didn't belong to the hotel. That they couldn't guarantee a parking spot and that we were lucky because other hotel actually charged for a parking spot, to which we answer that we would rather pay then have our car towed...
At our arrival, we went to our room and the door would not open. We went back down to reception to be explain that every 1000 turn or so you had to turn the handle counterclockwise to open the door. So we had to go back up with our luggages to finally open the door.

The light in the bathroom didn't work and we had to open the grate to fiddle with the neon.

There was no microwave in the room. And we didn't get a free breakfast. For a better room at the same price at the Super 8, we got an incredible breakfast.

This is a ok property. The location is good. Older building, but not bad. There is a $25 off coupon in the Kwarathas visitors guide that makes it much more appealing. The staff is fabulous. Rooms are clean (request a room facing canal, otherwise you are looking at a main street) and the brunch wasn't bad (a little overpriced at$18.50). But the dining room has a great view of the canal.

Room Tip: We had room 108, nice view of the canal, sliding glass door on the lower level
