My wife and mother-in-law were looking for a new restaurant experience, and Thai food was on the list. I was able to accompany them to a small establishment in a strip mall not too far from our home. Aiyara was the name, and the promise was authentic Thai cuisine. We were not disappointed.

The location is not the prettiest, a strip mall has little allure, but parking was free and plentiful. Once inside, the décor was Thai flavored surely, but minimal. There were pleasant coverings on the tables, and plenty of elephants about, but to say it was minimal was about what I saw. That alone is the only reason I gave dear place a 4 star rating rather than a 5 star.

After we were seated, a quick look through the extensive menu brought smiles to our faces. There are listed page after page of interesting dishes, all quite well explained. There are heat levels for those adventurous or less so. Our hosts were attentive and helpful with drinks and choice suggestions. They were quite willing to make changes are we requested, such as no peanuts on the Pad Thai. The prices are all very reasonable, and 1/2 portions are also available.

When the food began to arrive we were pleasantly surprised by the artistic use of fruit and vegetables in each dish's presentation. Flowers, and leaves and elephants etc. blossomed on every dish. It was definitely eye pleasing. The excellent appearance carried over into the tastes, as each dish was flavorful, the components coming together perfectly with out losing their individual taste as well. Every dish was fresh with crisp vegetables and light sauces, and well prepared proteins. Heavenly if you want to step away from deep fried Asian food for something different.

Dinner for three with cocktails, and tip came to $90 CAN. Worth every penny as we saw it.

Of course, they also have a take out menu and judging by the continuous stream of patrons picking up their bags at the cash, this place is well known by the locals. We will be visiting it again and soon.

Unbelievable food!
This might just be the best Thai restaurant in Ottawa.

Superb food, creatively presented in a peaceful and calm atmosphere.

A great place to go for a romantic lunch or dinner.

Very reasonably priced food with healthy portions of food.

I highly recommend this restaurant.

Enjoy!

Even if it is a small restaurant, the service was perfect and quick, the food was great, very nicely presented, the atmosphere was cozy . We were invited by our children for dinner so I couldn't name the dishes but we had crispy duck, green curry, red curry, pad thai, chicken satay, spicy shrimps...everything was warm and so tasteful not overly spicy. We will be returning for sure.

I tried this place for the first time last week. The food was really good and I would say a notch better then most other Thai place in town. The presentation is on another level with fruit/veggie sculpted animals found in many plates. Waitresses were quick and surprisingly the wait was minimal even though we were a large group. The only minor thing I won’t like about this place is that it can get a bit crowded and it is not the biggest dining room in town.

Food was fabulous, presentation was amazing, service was top notch - I can't say enough good things about this place!

Worth noting:
- we had a guest with multiple severe allergies, and they were willing (and able) to accommodate almost anything to her needs, rather than pointing to one or two viable options
- we had an over-tired toddler, and not only did it not cause a problem, but I caught one of the servers playing 'peek' with him from behind the till!
- for such a small independent restaurant, the atmosphere was lovely - from the elephant themed decor (even the teapots!) to the presentation of the food itself

We will definitely be returning :D
