“Great Seafood Without the Snootiness.”
Reviewed April 16, 2013

Ate at the Pelican Grill last night with a roommate after reading on Trip advisor. You walk by the fish market to get into the restaurant, which is small and intimate. If going on a weekend, I would suggest making reservations. We shared the mussels in white wine sauce (which were pretty good), but the calamari was amazing (and only $10!!). We were pretty full after that but seeing the entrées purchased by our neighbours, so we each only had a bowl of soup to save room for dessert. Had the maple creme brûlée (which was amazing) for dessert with tea. The prices don't seem to quite fit the venue, but are definitely appropriate for the quality of food!

Whatever you do - don't miss the calamari!!!

“Great Seafood Restaurant”
Reviewed April 15, 2013

I am not a fish eater but the beer-battered halibut fish and chip dinner was absolutely delicious. The side sauce was perfect- not your average tartar sauce and the coleslaw was creamy and delicious. The fries were fresh-cut /skin-on and were perfectly crispy. The fish was not fishy tasting at all but had a mild sweet flavour.

My mon had the fresh raw oysters and she said that they were the best that she had had outside of Nova Scotia. The scallops and mussels with garlic sauce were very good also according to my tablemates.

We will return to this restaurant. Not hard to understand why it has been around for 16 years. Service was attentive and informative.

“Best Groupon deal yet”
Reviewed April 12, 2013

I bought a $7.00 Groupon for a $15.00 lunch at Pelican Fishery and Grill. This place reminds me of Lapointe's Fish Market in the Byward Market except that here, the fish market and restaurant are in the same building. Also, here, the food is far from plain and bland. I was seated near the window. The restaurant is located in a strip mall on Bank St. beside the Farm Boy. The waiter was very helpful and suggested the special of the day which was fillet of rainbow trout. It was absolutely delicious. It came piled high, two pieces of broiled trout atop roast potatoes, cream leeks, red onion, kale, cherry tomatoes, toasted slivered almonds with beurre blanc for $19.00. I ordered a glass of pinot gris which perfectly complimented the creaminess of the leeks. The trout was melt in your mouth on the inside and just perfectly crunchy on the outside. The skin was grilled to perfection. Hats off to the chef!!! The service was great. I will definitely go back to this place.
