I stayed 3 nights at the Byward Blue Inn. I had never been to Ottawa before, so the location was perfect. It's very close to everything you need as a 'tourist' and only a 5 minute walk or so to the grocery and liquor stores. There's a teeny kitchenette that had cutlery, a cork screw and a few dishes, in addition to microwave, fridge and coffee maker, which made things easy. The staff was super friendly and I was lucky to be able to get into my room a few hours before the official check-in time. I was also given an unexpected room upgrade from the double which I had reserved to the queen. That was really nice...certainly wouldn't expect that every time, but was a nice bonus.
The room was very clean and I could control my own heat. One downside is that the floors aren't carpeted and I could hear the person above me walking around which was a bit disruptive at times. On one morning, it sounded like maybe I was next to an industrial laundry room...there was a weird sound that sounded like a washer on spin cycle that would stop and start for about 2 hours. Wasn't the end of the world but it started at 8 AM, so woke me up.
Breakfast is included ($5 more if you want the hot breakfast ie bacon, eggs, pancakes) but was a bit sparse. It was adequate, for sure, but perhaps a bit of fruit would round it out. It was basically bread/bagels, cereal and yogurt.
They also have extra umbrellas you can borrow if needed, which is a nice touch. Wifi was fine and they will also loan you a laptop if needed...also a nice touch.
As a woman travelling alone, I felt safe in the hotel as well as walking to it from the Byward Market at night. It's only 1/2 block in from the main street.
All in all, a pleasant stay, would stay again.

We stayed for two nights at the Byward Blue Inn. Staffs were friendly and check-in was easy. We had two rooms both with mini kitchen and fridge and a balcony at the back side of the building. There are air-conditionings at every window of the adjacent building and these are relatively noisy during summer nights. The room was clean and had a comfortable bed. From the Byward Blue Inn downtown Ottawa is at walking distance. There is a paid parking garage next door. The complimentary continental breakfast was adequate. Overall, we had a good experience staying at the Byward Blue Inn, and would definitely return at this pleasant Ottawa hotel.

we stayed here for just one night and were quite impressed! check-in was easy, and we went to our room to discover that though we had booked a queen room, our room was actually a queen balcony-- $10 value at no extra cost! the balcony was especially appreciated by my smoker husband :p

the room was clean and had minimalistic tasteful decor. the bed was extremely cozy! the mini fridge was especially appreciated for this couple who prefer to have a couple drinks in the comfort of their room rather than overpaying at obnoxious pubs :p

downtown ottawa is very easy to navigate and the byward blue inn is in a central location, convenient to the action, but just far enough from the aforementioned noisy friday night pubs.

the continental breakfast was a nice perk, and the $5 extra hot brekkie was a bargain.

overall, we had an excellent experience staying at the byward blue inn, and would definitely return in the future.

My husband and I went to Ottawa for the Canada Day Celebrations. The Byward Blue Inn was within walking distance of the Byward Market, the Rideau Canal and Parliament Hill. The staff were very knowledgeable and helpful. Our room had a kitchenette and desk and we spent a fair bit of time on the balcony. The main floor had a sitting area and a breakfast room. Breakfast had a good assortment of choices and I would call it a continentale plus breakfast -- even boiled eggs if you want. If you like to explore the city and be out more than you are in your hotel room, this is the place! Reasonably priced, great location, and just off the beaten path -- which makes it fairly quiet for a downtown Inn.

the quality of this hotel is good and the location is excellent. There's a public park close to the hotel where you can park for CAD$8 from 8am to 17pm. The area is very convenient and very close to the restaurants and bares area. The breakfast is very good and the room is big and clean. I recommend it

Yes, it is situated at the heart of Bytown making it a great location. The other good point is that it is really clean. Other than that, the rooms are furnished with the basic minimum (no functionning bed side table, broken blinds, old equipment, really cheap kleenex, etc.). The brakefast is very basic as well. I was expecting some fruits and perhaps cheese, not at all.

So all this to say that for the price, they donnot stand out with what they offer. It probably makes more sense to pay the same or a little bit more and to go somewhere else.
