I have no idea why this place got so many good reviews. It is a very standard hotel, with bare minimum facilities, basic rooms, and poor breakfast.
The location is strange, in a (dodgy?) neighbourhood.
Many reviewers discuss the balconies, well, it is a balcony overseeing a bunch of residential buildings. What's fun about that?

Room Tip: Give it a miss.

If you are used to travelling on business and are used to a certain kind of accomodation, this might not be your place. However, if you are a fan of bed and breakfast places, it IS a good one. I stayed here for a total of 4 days. Got my booking on hotwire.com so yes it was cheap.
First 2 days i was on the 4th floor. Got a nice bed, good wi-fi and the overall experience was good. Its more like a mom nb pop operation that still used keys for door access..

The last 2 days that i extended via hotwire was a different experience. They moved me to a room on the 2nd floor. WI-FI choppy which kinda was annoiying because I was working remotely. The room has 2 seperate twin beds neither of them were comfy. Also the showers were either 2 hot or absolutely cold.

The hot breakfast served every morning was decent.

Room Tip: Room 21 not the best

the Byward Inn is a good place as far as every thing is going well. As soon as you have a problem, it is a catastrophe. I visited the Byward Blue Inn recently and rent as well a spot in their parking. The parking is very small and they rented more spots that there are in the parking. When I came back in the evening, it was full and there was already a car which was trying to park. So, I waited at the parking entrance and the door of the parking went down on my car and damaged the trunk a little bit. When I asked the manager if he would reimburse me if the insurance would not cover the damage andif I would have to pay, the manager answered me that he was not responsible for that, because nobody closed the parking door, but the door closed automatically. So, he was not responsible, but the door was!! If it would not have been so pathetic, I would have laughed.
The rest of my stay was OK. The room was fine and had a nice view on the parliament hill. The breakfast was poor (the croissants were awful and there was only packed bread).
If I have not had this disagreement with the manager, I would have considered to goo back when I stay in Ottawa, but not anymore after that.

Room Tip: Don't reserve a spot in the garage. It is small and you have a high probability of damaging your car, even if the garage door does fall on your trunk. It is so small that it is very difficult to get in and out without touching the walls. A public parking is available just beside the hotel.

This unpretentious hotel is an ideal location for visiting Ottawa as it is right at the heart of the Byward Market area and 5 minutes from the main sights. Rooms are extremely well appointed and clean. Hot breakfast is included as it an afternoon snack. The staff could not have been more helpful.

Room Tip: Upper floors have balconies and good views - worth a little extra.

ByWard Blue Hotel is simple.Do not expect luxury hotel.
Room is quiet and basic.
No in room safe, but hotel looks like to be very safe, so no problems.
But hotels in Ottawa are expensive, so this is a good option.
Location is excellent.
Close to ByWard market, there are hundreds of options for restaurants, bar or places to buy gourmet food.
And Ottawa is small city, so is a short 15 minutes walk to main attractions, like Parliaments buildings, Rideau.
Breakfast is included, also afternoon tea, but both are basic.
Helpful staff.
Free internet.
