A good pub in Ottawa with a large choice of draught beers.
I also tried their fish n chips ,it was quite good.

“Great atmosphere ok food”
Reviewed July 1, 2014

This pub was right opposite our hotel. We sat on the patio. Service was good. However I ordered 'bangers and mash'. However the 'bangers' were most definitely not english style and tasted rather more like some sort of bratwurst. The texture was horrid. Also the menu said steamed vegetable, so I was a bit surprised to be served what was obviously sautéd vegetables, didn't matter that much to me, but might have been really important to someone watching their fat intake. Husband was happy with his food. I was disappointed

“Great party venue for a lively night out”
Reviewed June 23, 2014

As a tourist we wanted to see Canadians in their element at a night out letting their hair down and Sir John's did not disappoint. Good selection fo beer, cocktails and spiritis and a lively buzzing atmosphere .. OK probably as many visitors/tourists as locals but very welcoming.

“PASSABLE”
Reviewed June 4, 2014

Called in here for a quick drink and snack after checking in at the Business Inn across the road (review to follow after our second sojourn). Friendly, with a large choice of beers and that eclectic range of fare that “graces” Canadian Pub Menus but then I do enjoy a Pulled Pork Sandwich every couple of years! Do note though that it gets very busy and noisy later on as we can vouchsafe from trying to sleep in the premises opposite on two hot nights!

“A consistently good restaurant, but not worthy of a special trip.”
Reviewed June 4, 2014

I have been there numerous times over the last few years and, other than often being busier than I would prefer, have always been pleased. The food is typically better than one would expect and the service has always been good. The atmosphere is pleasant, even if the decor is somewhat typical.

Between the various people I have been there with, we have probably had nearly half the menu items and there was never a complaint. The beer and whisky selection is also quite good. However, few, if any, of the meals were memorable.

A consistently good restaurant to visit on Elgin, but not worthy of a special trip. It gives you exactly what the decor and pricing would suggest, and that, for me, is what makes it worthy of a 'Very Good' rating.
