Ottawa is known for its many parks and green spaces and the Arboretum adjacent to the Experimental Farm and Dow's Lake is one outstanding example. Expansive plantings of well labelled trees, many very old and mature, sweeping lawns and a pond are dominant features. Paths and park benches are numerous.
Parking is limited and recent changes to the nearby lots at the Experiment Farm where parking is no longer free might deter some visitors.
Many people walk and run their dogs here. A toboggan hill is popular in winter. Photographers bring wedding parties here for photos. Birders visit year round. In spring the ornamental Crab Apple trees and other flowering shrubs are a sight to behold.
Wear good walking shoes, bring a camera, binoculars, a good book to read, or a blanket to relax on under a tree.
